Name this car
I saw this car in Tokyo yesterday. There must have been some sort of car club outing as there were 70 or 80 very pricey machines in the area (including F50s, F40s, Diablos, Carerra GTs...etc). At first I thought this was a GT1, but have since ruled that out.
It had Porsched badges on it. Anyone know what it is?

Crazy, the door and cockpit remind me of porsche. Looks kind like an f-40/50. The vents behind the rear wheels look something like the 959 would have had. Maybe late-80's race car? **** if I know...

REALLY looks like a Dauer/Porsche 962 mated with a 959, and possible last moment love-child with a Mosler 900 Raptor series... Was there a Badge on the car of sorts. But again, it could just be a replica Dauer/Porsche with an "updated" bodykit, or a bodykit bought in Japan...I've seen some of the wildest bodykits for cars in Japan, they have an entire culture based on this!

It's featured at the end of the Porsche edition of Victory by Design that Alain de Cadenet does. They feature a dark green one at the end.

BTW, they are all DEFINANTLY worth buying on DVD!
It's is indeed a 962 base just to clarify. Porsche did not build them however. They are converted race cars. They have a top speed of about 151mpg. There are about 9 or so of these street versions in existance, made by 3 different companies. The Dauer is the most famous but that is not a Dauer that is posted above, it is however my favorite Some have as much as 750HP and they run about $1 million U.S. dollars. 0-60 in 2.6
I'd rather own a 959...

That's a Schuppan 962 (according to Victory by Design). I'm not too clear on how much of these cars are made from Porsche parts. I imagine that a significant amount of it is still from the Weissach parts bin, as they did start out as Porsche race cars.
Could someone shed more light on this?

^ damn...beat me to it.
unfortunatly i'm not sure how many porsche parts are in the car. for the dauer on the other hand, i was under the impression that a substantial# of parts could be ordered from porsche directly.

Yes it is a 962C CR by Vern Shuppan. Gunnar Racing has the second one produced for sale.
If you've never been to their site you really should check it out. You'll learn more about the old 904, 906, 917 and 911 than you will on most sites.
