Fourth Porsche model "Panamera" will have 4 Doors
Blame it on Rich Andrade - he forwarded me this link:

As of now, it looks like there will be V8 and V10 engines starting at 340HP and going up to 600HP. Optional rear wheel or all wheel drive. Made in Leipzig, East Germany, estimated about 20.000 units per year, starting in 2009.
More details should be released by Fall at the International Auto Show in Frankfurt.
Prices are expected between Euro 100 and 150k ($140-210k)
When are you guys going to pre-order this bargain?

Once again I have to question whether there's a market for 20,000 cars that each cost over $100k. Mercedes (S600), BMW (760li) and Audi (A8 W12) combined only sell about 3k of their $100k+ cars in the US, maybe twice that many in the ROW.

Agreed. The quantity is insane, and so is the projected price - unless it is (as so often) inflated for the European market (they get naked models for the price we pay for the fully loaded ones).
Think about the quantity they made of the 928 in 18 years (about 61,000, according to Jörg Austen).

Punching some numbers into on-line inflation calculators (with a bit of fudging due to the fact that 2009 isn't here yet) show my '91 GT with a 2009-adjusted price of $141k. So, it would seem that this new model is priced into a similar market segment as the 928. And we all know how well the 928 did...
I'm with JV. I think 2020 will be about the right year to pick up a 2012 model Panorama. Fourth production year so all the bugs should be worked out and if history repeats an 8-year old 928 successor should go for about 30% of sticker.

I also like the looks of the car...a 4 door hybrid of a Carrera GT & 911...very sharp! Can I afford a $140K car in 2009??? Doubt it....but can I afford a $70K car in 2014..FOR SURE

Styling doesnt do much for me. Not when you consider what is out there in that price range. I saw that new Mercedes, CSL i Believe, extremely beautiful.

My two cents...
It's a nice-looking car. But does anyone out there 'cept me think that all Porsche's are starting to look the same? Anybody else out there wish for a little difference between models? Front ends are so much the same you have to squint and consult your scorecard to tell which one you're looking at. Even the side profiles are very similar.
The Cayman looks like the love child of a Boxster and a 996. And the Boxster and 996 look like a brother and a sister marrying each other to begin with!
Now the Panamera looks pretty much like a 997 stretch limo.
Having a "corporate" theme is one thing. Inbreeding is another!
