Default Porsche Motorcycle!

Hey all,

OK< so you may or may not be aware that Porcshe assisted Harley Davidson in the development of the V-ROD engine. Since they flew all their engineers to Stuttgart, I would assume that it was a little more than assistance.

Does anyone out there know if there was a Porsche code name for that project? It obviously wasn't called V-ROD and probably had some alpha numeric signature. I have been very curious about this.

All of you Porsche detectives get yer thinkin' hats on....

I watched a special about it on A&E at some point. I thought it was interesting that Harley Davidson spent a LOT of $ and time designing the exhaust to make it sound like a HD and not a Porsche! IIRC it was a real PITA for lack of a better term.

FYI, Porsche didn't "assist" they designed it. From my imformation they actually designed and built the motors for HDs defunct Superbike program. The V-Rod engine was simply a redesign of that motor.

Hey Dave,

Yes, I was aware of that but I was trying to be PC for all the HD purists out there. I saw the "Birth Of The V-ROD" program on TV and was very curious about what designation Porsche would have given this project....................

I could only wish my memory was that good :-(

As you probably also know Porsche and HD has (or had) a joint Air-Cooled Piston program together.

Ever wonder what a Porsche-branded motorcycle would be like?

I enjoyed how they made the air collector out of a Fed Ex overnight package. Great American engineering, ay?

I am not a bike guy and far less an HD guy, but I do appreciate them and I DID think the V Rod was the coolest bike HD ever came up with. Unfortunately, Porsche must have passed on the 928 curse or maybe a better way of saying it, a bike before it's time. My understanding is sales blow for that model. HD die hards just do not accept the bike as a real HD....sound familiar????

Years ago, they made a concept bike... can't remember where I saw it, can't find it online. Anyone have any info?

The Harley dealer around here won't let potential buyers test ride the V-rod unless they bring in a bike or car and sign it away as collateral. Apparently people have a hard time handling the horsepower and they've crashed a few. I think the price is the big killer. Last time I saw a price they were about $17,000.

I have always wanted one, but don't want any of the HD stigma. I will stick to my Tourings and Dual Sports TYVM
