Ferrari Fly Yellow on a Porsche??????
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=10156
WHat the Hell is that??? Why would Porsche do that? Is it for real??? Ferrari Speed Yellow on a Porsche...come on, thats like Chevy blue on a Ford truck. I also dont understand this,
"Porsche regretably did offer a 993 turbo-look/optioned cabriolet. As such, the America Roadster was the last air-cooled turbo look cabriolet offered."
Why would you take RS America badge off, you think you would want everyone to know....
This ebay ad disturbed me, maybe I need to go to bed.

I'm not going to go into the misinformation contained within that ebay ad, but you can get what is called Paint to sample. At one time FLY(Ferrari Light Yellow) was an option. I have an acquaintance who has a FLY 993 TT.

Fly Yellow has its own Porsche colour code 10L. Colour to sample will show the numbers 998 or 999 in the colour code section.
All questions about this car would be answered if somebody asked for a digital photo of the options label on the underside of the luggage compartment lid. The Roadsters used the same VIN range as the cabriolet so the VIN is useless. However the Roadster had its own type number and this shows up onthe options label as does the original colour code and a whole host of other data. The colour colde label is also in the luggage compartment above the battery.
These are the key labels which tell the true story of this 964.
For the record Porsche made 14, 993 Turbo Cabriolets in model year 1995.
So if anyone is interested just ask for a copy of this label. The actual copy will be stuck inside the the service record manual so a scan of this page will also be okay.
I detail all of this information in my book and even provide the questions to ask to try and establish the authenticity of such cars. Porsche provided this information on the car. If it is missing then it is not in original condition.

Adrian

There is a picture of one in my book. There are 3 known RS Americas delivered with colour code 10L in the USA. I cannot comment about the 4th mentioned in the ebay ad.

This seems like a good deal, (at current price of $25k, although there are 6 days left), if it is a real American Roadster, and if it is in the condition described. I don't see anything too off-base in the ad. You have to assume that these used-car guys are going to put out an ad like that and you have to take everything with a grain of salt.
I think that we agree the ad should read "...Porsche regretably did NOT offer a 993...", which is the common enthusiast's perception, even though Adrian points out that most of us are wrong (he always has the best, most interesting 964 info, for those who don't know - and I guess some good 993 info!).
I personally like the Ferrari Yellow and almost put it on my 944, but I switched to a brighter yellow instead.

Dear Jack,
Not wrong I just have more info than most especially seeing as I am writing a book about the 993s.
I would advise great caution on this Roadster. I said what info is needed to help determine its authenticity. I am afraid from my viewing of the pictures I see a repaint. This can easily be determined by a digital photo of the options label and of the paint label above the battery.
I know of at least three what I call "Fakes" to have come out of Florida in the past year including a 1 of 105 factory built 964 Turbo 3.6 cabriolets (yeah right), the owner was so stupid as to send me the VIN. WP0CB2 says normally aspirated 964 cabriolet. When challenged these jerks run for cover but they sadly rip somebody else off. This 964 has been sold and I am hoping the owner does not appear on one of the forums I frequent. I have had to break this kind of news before and in one case made me an enemy for life.

It is a beautiful color in person. I personally like it a bit better than Speed Yellow.
You can see one (RSAmericas) here:
http://www.rsamerica.net/market/vehicles/index.htm
(I know the owner of the one for sale, the car is perfect)
You can also see the others here:

(Keith V, the PCA Advocate of the RSAmerica registry and webmaster of rsamerica.net, has one of the Fly Yellow RSAs)

I believe F...Speed Yellow (I can't even right the damn F-car word) is available as a special colour option on the 997s. Why is Porsche doing this ? At least they don't offer the F...(there it goes again!) red.

Note, in the US, if a seller provides the VIN, you can call Porsche customer service at 800-PORSCHE and they will tell you what options shipped with it. They don't know what the codes mean, however, you can use the option decoder on this site for the majority of them.

At the 6speedonline.com meet yesterday we had a nice selection of yellows to choose, all parked quite closely. A 550 Maranello Ferrari was right next to a Lamborghini Diablo, and my car across from them. The Lambo yellow looked pretty cheesy, the Ferrari I think a tad nicer than mine, but not as much as I always thought. It was overcast, if that makes any difference.

I don’t care what they choose to call it; all I know is Ferrari Fly Yellow is my absolute favorite color. This is coming from a guy who has never liked Yellow cars; I just think they are beautiful. I would even be willing to do something stupid like compromise on the options I wanted just to have the color.
