Overtaking on double yellow?

How many evenings of dinner meetings I remember breaking into shouting regarding this question!!! Tropical Sports Car Club's SCCA Regional Road Rally Program established (and it was checked thoroughly) that it is illegal to cross a solid yellow line EVEN to turn into a street or a business. (if there's a solid yellow line then the "left op" does not exist because it is not an "op"). The line painters are supposed to break the solid line at an intersection, but depending (I've found) on the size of the side road they do not always break the line. That being said, I doubt of most cops would ticket you for crossing the line in that instance.

In Maine, the law says that there must be an accompanying sign with the double yellow to indicate a no passing zone. I doubt you'll get away with it though...
