The insanity of the 911 market

Tales from the front - my local Porsche dealer has "numerous" 911s for sale, which is a big change from 18 months ago where none were on the lot, unsold.
991.2 and 992 cars unsold - GTs, Targas and a Turbo S. Also preowned Boxsters, Caymans and Macans sitting in the UV and rain, unsold.
Plus a couple of Cayenne TGTs unsold, and plenty of new Cayennes and Macans.
The market is for sure looser. Prices may not have been affected (yet), but availability in my area is much better than it was in the recent past.

Use the Porsche finder - you can see every car available in the country. The caveat is that this (and dealer websites) list all new cars including those that have been ordered by customers and are spoken for. I'm guessing there really aren't 22 911s available at that dealer - probably mostly customer cars with a 3 - 4 dealer spec'd carrying ADMs.

After about 20 calls to different dealerships, I found one who offered me a 1st allocation on a 992.2 GTS with the requirement that I spec it to at least 200k MSRP. I agreed, signed a dealer (not manufacturer) prepared deposit / allocation agreement and sent the 10k deposit as requested. SA and I have been in routine contact, I am being told everything is in order, I’m still first allocation and they should be taking orders in October but will know more at end of September when he returns from a training session in Atlanta. This is my very first brand new Porsche. Seems legit or am I getting scammed?

Call th4 manager of the dealership to confirm your deposit: don't forget about the Champion (Miami) dealership SA who scammed people out of millions with GT3 deposits a few years back.

Having called a dozen or so dealerships across the U.S. after the recent 2025 GTS announcement, I will say a deposit to be put on a waitlist seems to be pretty commonplace, but not necessarily universal. Some of these deposits are $1,000, some $5,000. When I checked, NONE knew when they’d be getting any allocation information. $10,000 deposit sounds VERY steep, particularly when the dealer can’t look you in the eye and give you a date. I declined these waitlists. I refuse to give a dealership an indefinite interest-free loan without SOMETHING in return, at the very least a definitive build date. I ultimately found a preowned 4GTS that was very close to how I would have specced a 2025. Also, beware of Champion Motors in FL. The sales guy solicited a bribe in the form of an ADM to get moved to the front of the list. Ask lots of questions before giving any money. If it doesn’t smell right, it probably isn’t.

Regular 911 and GT3 pricing doesn’t bother me too much. IMO they are underpriced at sticker, being the only fun, fast manuals you can still buy - I’d rather a $250k GT3 vs a $450k 296 GTB. And while not easy to get a GT3, they are available especially used. What annoys me is I can’t get an ST.

The point is that they are not that limited as one thinks versus other individual models of 911s......here are some numbers - technically if you do add up all the 911 models, you are right, but it is not that the GT numbers are small.....do not have the 992 numbers but it must be similar......the 997 and 996 GT cars were rare, relatively speaking.
