I keep trying to get excited about the 996 and now the 997.
It does look a lot better than the 996. I've been following the spy shots on the 996 and 997 forums.
Still. Yawn.
928 + Murph's supercharger will nuke one from orbit with extreme prejudice and not break a sweat.
I'm just one of those crazy 928 owners that lives on another planet I guess.

It sounds like someone's been watching apocalypse now. Awesome flick, let's terminate those rear engine and ricer kernels with extreme prejudice!!

Should make 996 resale even worse. Check this out:
http://www2.autospies.com/article/in...3&categoryId=1
I have to admit - the way 996 prices are dropping it's going to get more and more tempting as time goes by.
And speaking of lousy resale, how about the Cayenne:

Makes 928 depreciation seem not quite so bad.

The long-standing rumour has been that the 987 in coupe form will - at some point - get AWD and perhaps a turbo to get the power into the 300hp range in order to better compete with the Audi TT. So, an AWD, turbo, mid-engined coupe. I could go for that as long as it isn't stupidly more expensive than the equivalent offering in the TT. My wife and I recently got a 24 hour test drive of the new 3.2 TT with the Dual Sequential Clutch. Very, very cool. The TT rumor is that for 2005 - which may be the last year of the current TT model - it will get a turbo added to the VR6 for 300hp. So, that boxster coupe and the TT may be evenly matched in a number of parameters.

I've got my eye on 996 turbo depreciation. It wont be long before you can buy one for around 50-60K in the wholesale market in very nice shape. Add a chip and you are driving a 500hp car with perfect daily driver manners and 4wd all with less weight than our cars (and the same styling!) I could see making that move someday. While the SC cars are very fast etc. you all have to remember that there is no comparing a 15 year old car with the structural rigidity and CAD of a new car. It simply does not add up.

Seth I've driven a few 996's new and with miles on them. A 996 with 40K+on odometer is like a 928 with a 120K+. Its not just Porsche either, most of the materials in new cars these days is super cheap.

Thanks for the link .... I'd heard that they were returning to the original Porsche headlight design (as opposed to the racing/917/996/Cayenne/Boxster design) and I am OVERJOYED to see it a reality.

retro styling ...... kind of like the movie business let's do the old ones over again ..... run out of new "good ideas" no problem ? If in fact the "new" 997 is very much wider (due to the flares) it may be WIDER than our" too big , too heavy " 928 .......... The 911 hits age 40 and look what happens !!
