Default Outdoor storage?

Hey folks - I'm looking to get a new 944 cabriolet, however I live in San Francisco and don't have indoor parking.

curious is there any way to responsibly store a vehicle outdoors without basically degrading it significantly.

ideas:
- outdoor but w a car cover
- outdoor but get a tent over the vehicle
- otherwise pay to sublet a garage space... which is $300 a month minimum
- buy a worse example and not worry about it

curious to get folks opinions and experience with this. Thanks!

If you cover your car the car must be completely clean before putting the cover on or it will just Rub all the dirt into the paint. You live in the Bay Area where you can enjoy the car year round why the need to store it?

I park outside and had Covercraft make me a cover in Weathershield which is an excellent material. The car is not always perfectly clean when I put it on and my car's paint looks perfect to me.

A car that lives outside 24/7 will age faster, and especially some components like a fabric top. If you buy a 944 in exceptional condition, and want it to keep it that way, you probably need to find some garage space.

I would just get the paint ceramic treated. Do this and hand wash it (two bucket method) and the paint will stay pretty much as it was at purchase. Much cheaper than garage space, better than a cover (abrasive) or tent. Treat the plastic bits with the appropriate cleaner/sealant periodically.

If you do decide to buy a car cover you can order it through autogeek.org and they will have Covercraft make it and that will save you quite a bit over ordering directly from Covercraft. That's what I would do and what I did.

I let her sit outside for couple day when I was renovating the garage. She's all nice and covered, and I don't think she minds for couple day sitting outside.

At a minimum you’d want to cover it if you are street parking in SF or that top might get sliced open in no time depending on what area of town you are in.

I agree with othertbone; sublet the garage. $300 is a good price
