FS: Skip Barber 3-day Formula Racing School (pending, group buy potential)
This is going to sound crazy, but last year I let my wife talk me into purchasing a seat in the 3-day Formula Racing School program with Skip Barber. We were at the Petit Le Mans and they had a special going where you could get a seat in any 3-day event (Formula school only) of your choice in 2012 for less than a 2-day class at the PSDS.
I wanted to think about it, but she pressured me into getting since I've been waiting to take a driving school class ever since I started doing track events. The crazy part is that I've regretted it ever since.
Don't get me wrong, I know I would enjoy the class. However, there are just SO many other projects right now that I need cash for that sit higher in my list of priorities. So, I've decided to sell my seat.
Prices for classes @ Road Atlanta: $3600
Prices for classes @ Other Track: $4000 (Lime Rock, Laguna Seca, Road America)
Your price: $2500
I paid $3000 for the class, so I'm taking a $500 loss - but I would rather see someone get the full enjoyment of going, vs. me going and having a good time while thinking of everything else I needed the money for.
Day One
Starts with a classroom session; an introduction to the cars, discussion of the track and agenda for the program. An intense series of exercises follow, including practicing car control skills on the autocross and more downshift work. The day concludes with full-track lapping and lead/follow sessions.
Day Two
Emphasizes track time in a series of lapping sessions at higher speeds. The Formula Skip Barber sessions are coupled with track time in MAZDA3s; your instructor rides “right seat” to help reinforce your learning the racing line. The afternoon concludes with learning advanced techniques such as “trail-brake rotation.” Instructors consistently monitor all on-track action and give you direct feedback during and after the sessions.
Day Three
Includes classroom instruction in drafting, passing and racing in the rain, but the majority of the day is spent lapping at speed. Part of the day includes being gridded in race formation behind a pace car, which peels off as you practice starts and re-starts.

Did that school 20+ years ago at Road America- you should do it- you wouldn't regret it even though the school isn't run or owned by Skip himself anymore...

Okay, I've had a number of PM's from folks interested (4). The first respondent (facelvega) will get my seat unless something falls through.
However, I spoke with a contact at Skip Barber this morning and there are two options for anyone who would like to purchase a seat in one of their racing schools at a discount.
1 - For anyone in Atlanta the week of May 4, they are having an open house at Road Atlanta on Friday. Seats for all of their schools will be on sale at "booth prices" similar to what I paid at Petit Le Mans.
2 - For those who cannot attend, but still are interested in a discounted price for one of their schools, PM me your email address and I'll try to help facilitate a "group buy" of a package.
Pros - You can purchase a seat for any class and are not limited to only the 3-day Formula Racing School which I signed up for.
Cons - The discounted price will not be as low as what I was selling my seat for.
If interested, please PM me your email address by noon Friday, 4/20.
