Epic European Delivery Adventure!
#16
Quite similar build, except I got the sofas. I don't mind, since I'll be spending 2 months in Europe for ED, and it was probably for the best.
My schedule is firming up... I'll try to meet up for some of the fun in June!

It won't be long now till my epic adventure begins. I'm so excited, I might burst!
I would love to get more input regarding places to stop and/or eat. Hoping to meet some of you while I'm there.

How about some advice for where to eat in Stuttgart, on the way up to the 'Ring (think lunch), as well as the area around the 'Ring itself, and finally Spa.
I know all about the Hotel Am Tiergarten's Pistenklause and their steak on a stone. What else would you suggest as a must-dine destination?

If want to take a nice road and avoid the highway from Frankfurt to Nürburgring (or the A61), you can go thought Rüdesheim am Rhein, a very nice village with some beautiful houses (easy to park) and then follow the B42 all the way up to Koblenz. There 10-12 castles in 40km and the road goes nicely along the river Rhein (it is UNESCO heritage). From Koblenz you can go to the Ring by highway are also very nice back roads.

In Nürburg, there are not too much other options than the Pistenklause. If you go to Adenau, then you have more choices. As you enter the village, on your right, there is an Italian restaurant called 29 which is good. Also plenty of German restaurants in the city centre.
I wanted to go the circuit either Saturday(4th) or Sunday (5th), but so far the weather forecast remains as the last 2 weeks...rain and more rain..

I'm sitting in the departure lounge at SFO. Next stop, Frankfurt! From there I'll hop on the ICE train down to Stuttgart. My delivery is Thursday morning.
I'm not too put off by the rain at Nürburg. I recently drove Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama for the first time and the first day it was bucketing down. I did just fine. I'm also very comfortable with my 'track knowledge' of the 'Ring. I've driven hundreds of laps on Gran Turismo by now, and studied hours and hours of videos, not to mention the old fashioned printed corner-by-corner guides. I'm as ready as I can possibly be. And I'm fresh from the track, having spent three days again at Barber in the Masters Plus class last week.
Life is good!

I am sure you will enjoy this experience and really looking forward to read your review/see the pictures.
Remember, wet line in the Ring is very different as the dry racing line (sound obvious) but there 3 very simple curves in dry that become complex in wet due to the debris in the breaking zone and the opposite camber while turning.

(This post is not in chronological order... but thought I should include it)
11 days till delivery. It finally becomes real when you write the check. Two checks in my case. One for the purchase of the car, the other for the VAT (value added tax) charged in Germany. The dealer is simply stapling the VAT check to my paperwork. It will be torn up once the car arrives at the dealership.
The first thing was to hand over my ED welcome binder. Porsche provides a very nice black leather zippered binder that contains all the details and other niceties for the trip. Mine consisted of:
Itinerary letter
2 Taxi vouchers
Postage paid return envelope for the “Hauptzollamt Ulm/ Hauptzollamt Dresden” letter
Brochure and 10% discount for the Porsche Sport Driving School
Hotel reservation confirmation
Letter detailing Hotel options and discount
Guided museum tour confirmation/receipt
Cayman Quick Start Guide for the car
Brochure for the Porsche Experience Center - Atlanta
Booklet for European Delivery
Booklet for Porsche Travel Club 2016
Lanyard with name tag
Business card for Jamie Dillon
Small ED 2016 sticker
Monroney label (window sticker)
List of drop-off locations
Note pad
Despite no actual handover of a car, I still had to sit down in the finance manager's office and sign a bunch of forms. To my surprise, he told me we’d have to do it all over again once the car finally arrives at the dealership, as this is a European delivery car. I thought this was very strange, so I’ll report more once that day finally arrives. I can only assume it has to do with DMV paperwork. For example, on my initial forms, they just wrote '10' for mileage.
