Default It's a date! June ED in Leipzig!

Got my date this morning. My BGTS is building in a couple weeks and I was on the list for Leipzig June delivery. I did Zuffenhausen ~10 years ago and Leipzig and some track time sounded like fun.

Last night I was offered Zuffenhausen dates, but they seemingly disappeared in minutes. Anyway, right after I heard those were gone this morning, Leipzig dates came out and I immediately took the first one and got it!

So psyched, this is getting real... Time to start planning. The current sketch is Leipzig->Salzburg->Grossglockner->Dolomites->Lago di Garda->Zurich(and nearby passes)->Sindelfingen.

Congrats I’m waiting for my date as we speak. How long did it take for them to come back to you with potential dates for pick up? From what you said it sounds like they gave you options for both pick up locations, am I right?

I think the time-to-delivery is probably the best indicator of timing, rather than how long you’re waiting. I’ve been on the list for a June date since about November, and they were just made available yesterday. Five Zuffenhausen dates were available first, and then four days in Leipzig came out the next day. The days go very fast. I tried and failed to get one of the first batch. Leipzig was my original plan, and early June is perfect for us. So I’m good.

Congrats. I am also June Leipzig, planning a similar route. Perhaps our paths will cross! Enjoy

Congrats, that’s excellent! June is, at least in my opinion, one of the best times to go. All the mountain passes should be open, weather should be great, but it’s not quite as busy as it gets in July/August.

I really enjoyed Grossglockner. Not sure if Stelvio is part of your plans but I was less impressed with that pass. Super narrow road with what seemed to be only REALLY tight hairpins. It looks amazing in the pictures, but I was disappointed with the actual experience.

The track time in Leipzig is great. I really appreciate that the instructors are all about helping you drive better and push toward the limit of the car. They seem to completely understand they are part of our “bucket list” experiences and they do everything they can to make them amazing.

I am doing ED late April. Just got the first “in production” picture today!

Thanks! Agree that June seems like an ideal time. I was originally scheduled for an April delivery, and asked them to push it back.

I rode my bike up the Stelvio ten years ago, and that was amazing, but I'm probably going to skip it this time.

Great to hear that about the Leipzig track time. I love the idea that my wife is going to get a go on the track, she will never do that anywhere else.

Stelvio may be open in June if you are lucky and there wasn't a lot of snow. In late May 2016, I was driving the Umbrail pass up and the top of Stelvio (which is basically a continuation and about 2 miles further to the left) was still closed. Forget driving it late June to September: there are too many bikes, bicycles, RVs and other tourists, so the narrow hairpins on the eastern side are even more painful. I was lucky to drive it on the last day of the 2012 season and had a blast. But the Bormio side is actually more fun to drive. Oh... and the Umbrail pass is very narrow and not advisable if there is traffic.

Here are two videos I took in 2012:

Great videos. I went up the Bormio side, while the Giro d'Italia was coming up the other side. I think it was the last week of May and they had just cut the road through to the top for the race, there were still ten-foot snowbanks on the sides!

Still on track, started production today, to be completed on 3/7/24! Starting to book hotels along the way: Leipzig->overnight in Austria->Grossglockner->Cortina d'Ampezzo/Dolomites->Lago di Garda->St Moritz->Zurich->Sindelfingen over two weeks.
