I was in a weird situation where I had insurance but had 0 cars under the policy at the time of purchase. The dealer said that was okay; having an insurance account with my name was enough for them.

All sorted out, why would I need insurance on car that’s not even in USA. They had wrong information.

Mine asked for the same thing, but then i talked it through with them and they realized it didn't make sense lol.. Now i will imply call to add the insurance when i know definitively of the date of pick up at my home dealer.

insurance company will not insure car that isn’t in USA. But all worked out. Paid the car yesterday and all set for October 25th ED Leipzig.

I was asked by the dealer (Canada) to provide insurance/registration before I leave for ED. The car is currently in Germany.

And did you? I don't get this odd request by your dealer at all. The dealer would be the one providing the registration and you shouldn't need to insure it until its in canada ready to be picked up.
