NYC metro area PPI shop for a 1978-81 911SC
Hi Folks,
This is my first post in the forum. I am looking to buy a 1978-1981 911SC - will be my first Porsche - and right now I'm in the process of searching for deals on the internet and car classifieds. Would anyone recommend a good PPI shop in the NYC metro area for a Porsche of this era? The closer to NYC the better for me, but could be Queens, Brooklyn, Long Island, NJ.
Thanks,

You live in NYC, the probability that the car you want to buy will be in the NY metro area is remote.
Wait til you find a car you are interested in becomes available, then ask again.

Dear Divot,
That's true, the odds are against me, but in this case it just so happens that I was going to see two cars listed for sale in my area. I wanted to be ready knowing where to take the car, and thought these places could also prove useful in the future to maintain my car. But I'll confirm and post the request again in case they pass my own inspection and it gets to the PPI.
Regards,

Burning Brakes
Formula Motorsports in Long Island City. They are looking at my 87 928 now and I did see at least one or maybe two old 911s when I was in the shop earlier this week. This is the only place in NYC I know of, but there is also SM Motorsports in Long Island and I've heard of good shops in Connecticut, but do not recall their names now.
Cheers!

Well, if you need an expert on early 911s on Long Island, I can recommend my guy, he's in Freeport. It's a hike for a PPI, but he saved me from buying a car with a bad engine. He has probably owned both a 78 and a 81. He knows older cars, works on them all the time.

Got it!
Folks, as an update, I ended up finding a gorgeous silver 1980 SC! I got it in Texas and will post pics later on the 911 forum. Thanks for the tips!

When I was in the market for a Porsche, these guys seem to have been the shop to visit:

I never pulled the trigger on one and do not have any first hand experience with them though .
