I've lived in bergen county my whole life (30 yrs). I know some great roads in the area but I'm always looking for some new routes. Does anyone out there have any favorite roads in the area they wouldn't mind sharing?

Not exactly a road in Northern NJ, but I accidently ran into a nice route this weekend. I was on my way to paintball practice following the ever so perfect mapquest directions.... Well apparently good old mapquest took me all the way out to Lancaster, PA. The complete opposite direction of where I was supposed to be going. Anyways, I decided to go visit a friend in York, PA since I was so far out there. On my way to into York by the 'Something Heights' exit of 83 theres this nice little road. I was kicking myself that I didnt have my 951 (instead i had the crummy SUV
). So if your ever near York, you'll know a nice place to drive.

If you have ever heard of Ringwood NJ (Passaic County), theres a section called "Stonetown"... theres one main road that runs through it, I forget the name of the road, but it sure is sweet.

Ok here's my favorite run...beautiful scenery and some nice twisties.
1)head rt 80 west (from the bergan county)
2)Exit for Rockaway/hibernia and make a left - This is Green pond road very nice with a few twisties about 35 Miles long
3)Follow to rt23n - make a left and head north for about 8miles - Take no chances on 23, traps everywhere.
4)Here's where it stars to get fun - Follow the exit for route 515 toward vernon.(be careful when you exit as the police station is right past the rr tracks past this is free sailing.) You'll be treated to a road with beautiful hills and twisties where even driving the speed limit(50mph) can be a challenge.
5) As 515 gets down into vernon, it merges with rt94 at the bottom of a long hill - be careful here as cops set up traps entering into vernon.
6)Follow rt 94, nice stretch of road for about 10 miles passing into NY.
7)Make a right onto route17A. The best road of the whole trip. Tons of twisties and hills - be careful as some of these are hairpins as you come down out of the mountains. Once you get to know the road and drive it right, it will always put a smile on your face. 18 miles
8) Now what I usually do is make a right on 17 south (tons of speed traps) and head for rt287 south to 80 east but sometimes I follow 17A out till it turns into rt210 (tight turns not as refined) then onto the palisades parKway south an back to Jersey.
This has become my favorite route in the area and when I feel I need a smile on my face, I jump in one of the p cars and go. It would be a great route to have an organized run as Powertech is located in Rockaway and would make a perfect start/end point.

Dave that sounds like an excellent run!! I'm familiar with the areas but not all of those roads. Thanks for all the detailed info, I can't wait to check it out.

I believe you are talking about Navasink river rd - locust point rd. They are nice roads but unfortunately are narrow, run through residential areas and are rather short.
I know of some areas around colts neck that have some great roads but have never taken the time to actually map out a route.
