Has anybody here preordered the next gen of the Oculus? My main issue with the DK2 was the bad screen door effect, at least in my view. Hoping the upcoming commercial version will have far better resolution such that I would use it far more.

I pre-ordered the first hour they were available. So far reviews show that the CV1 is a lot better than DK2 with regards to SDE.
Though the SDE never really bothered me on DK2 to begin with.
Seems the latest runtime (v1.3) helps a BUNCH with overall performance. It will be very, very nice once iRacing updates.
Got to try out some VERY expensive gear... and WOW. What a treat it was. He's got ~10 rigs in various configurations. Wheels ranged from, on the LOW end, the Fanatec CSW V2 wheel, all the way up to the Bodnar V2 wheel ($4k for just the base, the actual steering wheel is extra...) Some great pedal options, etc. along with some full motion platforms.
If you're in or near the area, I'd *totally* recommend checking them out. Naid, the owner, is just a big enthusiast who loves talking shop about this stuff. Zero sales pressure or anything... though after trying out some of his pedal options, might have accidentally declared a credit card emergency and bought a set of pedals.
The Leo Bodnar wheel was pretty damned incredible. All the reviews? 100% true. The detail you feel, the responsiveness... just amazing. He also had a "small Mige" OSW (Open Sim Wheel), which is a DIY version of the direct-drive wheels... and it actually felt pretty good, almost on par with the Bodnar. I drove one of the rigs with the CSW V2 wheel (same wheel I own, and am very happy with) and it made the CSW feel like a friggin toy. *sigh*
Jim- Any review on the CV1 vs. DK2 experience? I busted out the DK2 for a while last night and blasted out a couple laps on the ring in the R8. It is pretty spectacular if you don't look too close at the pixels. I didn't lower my settings from the triple screens at all and it easily maintained a 75fps. The new Runtime combined with DX11 seems to have improved the efficiency quite a bit. I also turned a bunch of laps around Gilles Villeneuve in the F1 car. That's a pretty wild experience too and I was getting closer to feeling as confident as I do with a screen, but being able to turn my head and look down the track in the hairpin is so awesome. There's something about seeing the F1 front tires that just looks so right as it bumps over curbing and picks up a bit of grass.
How does the CV1 compare? Is it worth the hefty upgrade price?
The DX11 and new SDK are what made the performance improvements.
I think the CV1 is really good. It's not like jumping into a 4K screen with razor sharp resolution, but it's definitely clearer. It's WAY more comfortable. The included speakers sound really good.
For reference, in the RUF, with the CV1, I can read the tire pressures on the dash. I couldn't do that before.
IMO it's worth the upgrade. I was going to keep my DK2 and give it to my 12 y/o, but had a friend offer to buy it off of me. Considering my 12 y/o has barely touched his sim rig in the last 18 months, I decided to hock the DK2 instead.
You can't see the individual pixels unless you REALLY look for them.
