Yes.
Now, ON a SPB, there is little if any information that the Solo DL can pull off that old a car.
The MXL has the ability to add simple, external analog sensors for pressure, temperature and travel (throttle position, for instance). The MXL has a tach input whereas the Solo DL has NO WAY to get a good RPM signal off an SPB, because everything HAS to come from the ECU and the early Boxster doesn't send that information.
IF you had a 2003 or later Boxster (say, an F car), you could wire a Solo DL directly to two wires and get RPM, throttle position, water temp, brake light switch on and off, but a Solo DL on a early car (2001 or earlier is a non-starter.

Ok. Solo DL is a logger/translator/power source/GPS information source for any SC HD that is connected to it. The Solo DL generates and records for later analysis files of basic information, like G's, lap timing, speed.
To operate standalone, an SC HD would need an antenna ($149) and a power cable ($45-$60) and would not record for later analysis ANY information other than the lat/long g's, lap timing, speed, track position, day and date recorded onto the video.
So I DO have people who have old cars that use the Solo DL with just power supplied to it to log basic data AND send power and data to the attached SmartyCam. Does this make sense?

The Smartycam will display whatever the Solo DL sends to it, which in the case of a SPB is not much. If you had an MXL2, then it would display whatever sensors are hooked up to the MXL2.
You could put just a SCHD with a GPS antenna and get the speeds and G forces on the video from just those 2 devices. The nice part about adding the Solo DL instead of the GPS antenna is the predictive timing and the display.
