Default TPS data directly from a 99 (non-eGas) throttle position sensor

I've got a 99 SPB with an AIM MXL Dash/logger - the older version without the color screen. Has anyone figured out how to get the throttle position data directly from the TPS? or do I need rig some kind of potentiameter and connect it to the throttle body near where the throttle cable attaches? I imagine that the early 996s wouls be similar.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Courtesy of @MJP911 , he says: I believe I connected the sensor input GROUND for the logger to ECU 34 (Br/Pk, 0v Sensor ground) and the sensor input SIGNAL to ECU 44 (Ye/Bk, TV-signal (throttle)). See red highlight in attached diagram.

As shown in the diagram, you can actually get the signals from the ECU or the TPS itself. Note, this is for a 99 Boxster. The actual pins/wiring colors is may be different for other cars.

You'd need for AiM patch cable to go from an open channel connction on the MXL harness to the ECU area.

Connect the patch cable to the MXL harness, then cut off the other end to expose the bare wires.

Ground is black and signal is white on the AiM patch cable. Tape up the blue and red wires as they are unused.

If you do this, I would not suggest connecting the ground. Connect the signal wire (white in patch cable).

I do not recommend this method in general. It is completely dependent on the quality of your wiring. If you have an engine problem, you have now added another thing you have to trouble shoot (most likely at the track). And yes Peter, I have had situations were this was a problem.

Works for dozens of folks I know in SPB…

I agree with you not to connect to resistance temp or pressure sensors, but this is a simple voltage divider.
