I would assume "engine temperature" usually refers to coolant AKA water temperature.

Thanks, but I just received my AIM Solo, and I understand that ECT is coolant temp, OIL T is oil temp (easy...) and engine temp should be the temperature of the engine compartment (there is a temperature sensor on the intake manifold).

The sensor on the intake manifold would probably be IAT or intake air temp. I have never seen that labeled as engine temp.

On some cars with front mounted radiators/coolers, there are two temp sensors for water and/or oil. One exiting the engine going forward, one a return. At least there is on most of the later Cayman (987.2/981) detailed MoTeC templates I am using.

A super easy way to track what is what is to plot the warmup phase, as generally thermostat opening events are easily seen.

Agree with Matt, ambient and intake air temp is usually identified as such.
