Default Rural road maps

I have been looking for a paper map of some North Carolina counties that can help me design rally routes. I found one in a local Fire Station, and traced it back to this website:

http://www.mapsales.com/county-wall-....aspx?region=1

These would do the job, but I would rather not pay the $195 price.

Pelican also sells Butler Maps, but I cannot tell from the photos how detailed they are and what areas they include.

I know you can look this stuff up on Google, but I'd prefer a solution where I don't have to keep zooming in and out. Any ideas?

Sorry for such a late reply, but a lot of motorcycle tourers swear by the Butler maps. Good luck, let us know if you figured out anything.

You might check if there are any public lands in the area. Folks like BLM, Forest Service, and state agencies publish maps. Then contact the land manager. We also use Butler maps for Overlanding, similar to what the dualsports do but with 4x4s.
The Backcountry Discovery Route folks have established route maps that Butler publishes. Mainly for the western states but in-work now is a BDR route from Florida to Canada.
As an example here is the Utah Backcountry Discovery Route (UTBDR) video Trailer
We do the BDR routes with our Cayenne.

Thanks - I had not thought to check with these agencies. I tried the Department of Motor Vehicles which couldn't help.

Old post I know but for those using the search function, check out Madmaps, they are popular with the two wheeled crowd. I've purchased a bunch over the years, nice thing is that they are made with a durable plasticized paper for water repellency and durability.
