I took my leased Lexus through out of desperation. It was about 6 months before I turned it in. I thought, it's silver, it's a lease, a few minor scratches won't hurt.
After the wheel and tire insurance got done fixing the three wheels that were scraped badly enough that the lease return company was going to penalize me for them, I realized, nah, not even in desperation on a leased car.

Thinking of ordering and using most days year round. Too cold to wash myself from mid September to mid April at best. Only hand wash option is all day drop off and round trip Uber- just not worth spending 2-4 days a month of my leisure time to do this. My white M3 has had 8+ years of commercial car washes (~180 in total) and it looks almost new. Is there a reason to expect a different result from a 911? I am quite sincere about this. Thanks for giving me serious answers. BTW would get white, chalk or GB and plan to keep 8-12 years as I will retire in 5 years and only drive about 5K per year.
I have Guards red and its as hard as a black car to care for.... an obsession. Mine is pristine

Took our SUV to the wash today. -Don't hate- it's an appliance to go to the mtns and back with a sand blasted front end
Dude in line, directly in front of me, was was having his 991 C4S washed in the tunnel. It was BLACK in colour. Would have been too obvious taking a cellphone pic. Car came through the conveyor just fine.

No, did not look at the paint from closer than twenty feet. Totally agree that being black, or any colour washed at a conveyor wash, his paint is swirled. Per the OP's question- the car went on the conveyor, through the wash, and exited in one piece. Clean, shiney-ish, with probably swirls in the clear coat finish.

Look, I get what you guys are saying, but the fact is that 90 percent of PCar owners don't give a crap about the car. I had to have mine fixed by a pro to get it back as it had obviously been in the car wash... and not the touchless kind.
We all know its bad.. boo.. no car washes.. but a lot of people do, so might be good to actually answer the question.

Point taken. However, you may want to consider leading by example and provide something useful for the OP, rather than lecturing the forum.
Just a thought.

My manual states not to take my 2014 Boxster through an automatic car wash. Same discussion and outcome as the endless break-in debate. Do what the manual says or do what you want.
I've taken it through a car wash about 100+ times now in 4 years. No issue with the wheels, paint, top or leaks. I'm too busy in my personal and professional life and don't have the time or patience to wash the car myself or have a professional do it for me. It works for me.
My 991.2's wheels are too wide for the car wash rails so I need to find a touchless for that car. Maybe that is a better option for the OP.
