Default 7" Rotary recommendation

My rotary died.

I have been comparing replacements online.
I need a quality 7" rotary, good for 3K rpm. I have backing plates.

Not sure what my old Porter Cable 7420 weighs but it is/was a tank.

If I rule out the cheap stuff and the stupid expensive $300 plus stuff, what have you used that is a solid tool and lasts.

I do a lot of detailing, it will get used frequently.

So far:

Milwaukee 5540 11amp, 0-2800rpm, 8.8lbs $219

Makita 9227C 10amp, 0-3K, 6.6lbs, $225

Dewalt DW-P849X, 12amp, 0-3500rpm, 6.5lb, $250 (seems best so far, but pricey)

Thanks

Of the rotory polisher on your list I would choose the Makita 9227C ( not sure I understand the 3K RPM criteria though)

This Rotary Polisher is built to be light, agile, and fast - FLEX PE14-2-150 Lightweight Rotary - (10 amp /motor with a no-load speed range of 600-2100 rpm) lighter (5.5 Lbs) perfect for professional detailers who spend hours behind a buffer
(but it does'nt meet you price criteria approx $380 US)

Thanks TOGWT.
After reading product reviews that actually was the one I was looking closest at.
You reinforce that.

The 3K was from Makita's spec's. RPM specs.

What was your reason?

The Dewalt is the cheapest online actually. Huge discounts on Amazon.

I'd like to hold each one and see the trigger switches etc.

Neither home Depot or Lowe's had the tool. Two local quality hardware store don't sell them either.
I guess there is not much of a market for a 7" polisher outside of the detailing websites and Amazon type stores.

My gut was to say Makita all the way, but if the DeWalt is now the same weight as the Makita then it's worth a look.

I have an older DeWalt rotary, have had the thing for like 8 years, use it quite a bit and it just won't die (I've changed the brushes twice and it needed a new power cord at one point). I told myeslef a couple of years ago that when it goes I was going to get the Makita after using it and really enjoying the weight, but I guess I havnen't kept up with them close enough if the DeWalt is now the same. Mine is a big heavy tank compared to the Makita.

I too am curious what you're polishing at 3k RPM's? Metal or Gel coat is what I'm guessing.

Andy

If possible, get the FLEX. Having used Makita, and trying out DeWalt, we decided to upgrade to the flex and love it. Well worth the investment.

+996 on the Flex PE-14. Super lightweight yet powerful machine. I wouldn't trade mine for anything. My Flex 3401 forced rotation polisher is also a gem and both are staples in my detailing shop.
