Default Leather seats

I need some advice,

I have brought a 2001 BMW 540 motorsport about three months ago, as my to and from work vehicle, the black leather is shell we say a bit gray in colour, after cleaning, the cleaning rag is a dirty black colour no matter how many times I clean it.

I went to a local detailing shop and they have recommend a product called colourcoat, from www.sem.ws, this is a spray on product and they have used it on mustangs and had great results, however I have not been able to see this to conform.

Has anyone used or know about this product?

I have had Jaguars, Mercs and Porsche before and the leather has always looked fantastic but can’t get this to look any good, is the BMW leather just poor quality?

Any other ideas welcomed

Thanks Andrew

Neglected 10 year old leather probably requires a thorough cleaning and renovation

Andy,

It's very possible that the seats were coated with a paint, shoe polish or somethign similar to hide wear/tear. If this is the case you will find that this will slowly come off on your rag when you use cleaners.

One way to remove any previous non permanent coatings quickly is with Leatherique. What are you using to clean the leather?

As far as leather quality goes, I think BMW leather is not nearly as nice as MB but it is close to Porsche's leather, maybe slightly lower quality.

^ thats what I was thinking. Pictures would be great. If the leather was dyed properly you shouldnt be getting transfer. But we also dont know what you're using.

Thanks for the comments.

The previous owner had it 8 years and he said he was too old to worry about cleaning the seats and the inside.

I have used mothers cleaner and also white vinegar and water.

Photos show the colour they were where the front leg support has been moved forward.

Thanks again for your suggestions

And

What are you doing, making a salad??

Don't use vinegar.

Use a diluted solutiuon of Lexyol Leather Cleaner (orange bottle) and water, with a quality leather cleaning brush. Then top with a quality conditioner. I like Zaino Z10 and products from colorplus.com.

Nice, sounds like a dressing, but it works really well cleaning the Jaguar leather believe it or not.

Anyway will see if I can find some of the Lexyol Leather Cleaner here in New Zealand and give it a go.

As for the photos I am making a mash of that also as I cant get them on here.

cheers
