Porter Cable 7335 vs. Flex XC3401VRG
I'm a novice interested in getting a machine like this to help keep the exterior looking beautiful. There seems to be a lot of favorable discussion on the PC but I'm wondering if that machine will suffice or should I step up, spend a few more bucks and get the FLEX. Thoughts?

I would second what Phil says. Close to rotary performance, very well built machine and ergonomically superior to the PC IMHO. My seat of the pants estimate is that the Flex on speed 4 is about the same as the PC on speed 6. I really like the trigger control on the Flex.

does the novice factor play into which machine would be the better tool? i've never used one of these and don't want my paint job to be an unnecessary victim if i can help it. i've heard the pc is safe.

the learning curve is quite easy on both machines. but if I had a choice the flex is just a better machine.
of course common sense is needed for both machines.

I also have heard the flex is better......
PC is pretty good though.....not really powerful enough to do serious corrections....but easy to use, especially for novices..... I bought one because its inexpensive and I have a rotary for the hardcore work!

Haven't tried the flex yet, but I agree with Iceman. If you need to do any kind of serious work, a rotary is the way to go. I have done some pretty amazing stuff with my PC7424, but it takes multiple passes and we all know that "time is money". Can't do much damage with the dual orbital though, so it's prbably best to start out with that type of machine until you get the hang of it. I also had an old 944 with pretty bad paint to begin with to use as a guinea pig, so if I messed it up a little all was OK. I made it very presentable, but was glad the few mistakes I made weren't on my very nice 968 or someone's Ferrari.

The flex will give you better results faster! It's a heaver unit.
the PC is almost idiot proof.
What I HATE about the PC is the noise, & you hand will hate you have a hour with it!
I also think the pads will last a lot longer on the flex, I have melted pads with my PC, it really holds the heat in the backing plate.
They both have their place & usage, but if I had to pick one, Flex.
