few questions on molding/trim cleanup
i'm in the process of working on an 88 951 and have searched the various detailer websites but still have a few questions:
Q: the space between the door and the body molding (strip that runs horizontally along the mid point of the door exterior) - best way to clean all that built up wax, grit etc.?
i've been told toothbrushes (hah, what kind, how soft...doesn't seem like bristles would be the way to go)
i've been told both yes&no to pressurized water rinse
i've been told hot water
have experimented w/ all and just not happy w/ the results
Q: restoring chalky black rubber/plastic that has years of wax build up
again, i've been told toothbrushes and special combinations of this or that...haven't really found anything that lasts for more than a couple days
my current detailing setup is using the meguiars stuff (steps 1-27 or whatever it is)
any help is appreciated...thx

oh, here's a pic, just gettting started w/ the project
check out my all black stoneguards...can't wait to tackle replacing those grrrr...
so far the car had been washed 3 times, pre-clean wax, clean waxed and the one section of the hood had been clayed
(upper right near steering wheel)
very happy w/ the initial progress although a couple days into it i realize just how far i have to go
have had the car 15yrs and am happy to finally get around to restoring it to it's former guards red glory best i can

Black Wow - Designed for any colour exterior plastic, this gel will restore your trims natural colour without use of dyes or colorants and provides a rich, long lasting look. What you want to do is thoroughly clean the plastic with a cleaner like rubbing alcohol, or other chemical designed just for wax/polish removal, before dressing.
Directions:
a) This cleaner is a strong concentrate; spray-and-rinse, without scrubbing, if you are starting on an old, neglected surface, use a fairly stiff brush.- HiTemp Tire Cleaner - http://www.topoftheline.com
b) Apply a pea sized amount to the foam applicator pad and massage it into your trim. You will see an instant improvement in darkness and evenness in tone. Continue to spread this out. Always work with pea sized amounts. The final look should be matte, not glossy and wet. There is no need to let BW dry or cure. Once applied, remove the excess with a towel or proceed to wash the car and using a wash mitt or sponge to wipe down the trim. Dry with a separate towel from the one you use to dry the paint- http://www.detailersdomain.com

Before the Black WOW. I would use a detail spray, & a MF towel to clean out the grit/dirt. The use the BW on it. You may have to repeat a few times. A old Credit Card, in the MF towel can really help get into the cracks. Just keep the towel wet with detail spray.
