Default polishing pads

I just purchased a Porter Cable 7336 and 2 each of orange, blue and green pads. What are the uses of each color?

This depends on the manufacturer label.....Lake Country, Edge pads, Sonus, Meguairs, etc.

Almost all "orange" pads are cutting or leveling pads used to remove oxidation and correct paint problems like marring and such. Most companies issue green to be medium polishing pads and blue as finishing pads. You can also tell by the pads feel. A cutting pad will have a more open structure to it, feel a bit more coarse while a polishing and finishing pad will have a finer texture.

Hope that helps,
Anthony

Thanks Anthony. The pads came from an Optimum distributor West Coast. Does that make a difference in your color description?

They are then most likely American Buffing pads and the colors are just as I described.

Orange = cutting
Green = medium polishing
blue = finishing pad
