Default Swirl Marks - Jet Metallic Black v Black

I am considering either Jet Metallic Black or Black for my next Porsche and have never owned a black car before. I have heard about how difficult black can be to take care of (assuming no PPF) and wonder if there are less visible swirl marks with the Jet Metallic Black.

get metallic!

jet black is a nightmare to maintain
Metallic will be so much easier

either way, if you are going to keep it, PPF the car if you dont want to see swirl marks, only real solution on black car. Or just plan on polishing every 6 months to maintain it!

Agreed the metallic will be much easier to maintain and IMHO it looks better too. I have Basalt Black and it looks amazing in the sun.

Third for metallic black. In my experience they are generally more pleasant to work with.

I like the look of non-metallic black better, but yes it takes extra care and protection to keep it swirl free.

PPF is a must for the front of the car, recommend full fenders, hood and front bumper/lip plus mirrors. If you ceramic coat the remaining painted surfaces and use a 2 bucket washing routine and a ceramic refresh spray after each wash it will need minimal additional effort. I know that this is not something everyone is willing to do, so make your choice based on your expectaions.

Metallic black will likely ease your paint a bit...but will still need more attention/protection depending on your particular level of "Looks good to me..."

A some thoughts from a thread last week regarding how to best protect/maintain black if indeed one cannot beat the addiction to black: How to keep a black car clean and scratch free

With two non-metallic black Porsches and a black Range Rover, I sometime think I must be a masochist. Takes soooo much effort to keep them looking good. Oh...….and I almost forgot my wife's black Cadillac.

I would never own a black car without PPF. With the film it’s like any other color to maintain except it shows the dirt much more. But when it’s clean and shiny it looks incredible.

Whichever black paint you choose, I highly recommend Kozak Cloths. Google it. I cared for my straight black 911 for years with it with surprisingly great results. Just be sure to wash and/or Kozak in straight lines; no circular rubbing.
