Default Gundo Hack in Chicago

I'm looking for a shop in the Chicago land area to do a Gundo hack 2" at a reasonable price same day service. Any good places around here?

Did you ever get a reply about a shop that would do this?

Sounds like there needs to be a Chicagoland Gundo Hack meet. Who know how to weld?

I went to a custom muffler shop and the guy didn't want to mess with removing the muffler from a Carrera. (Hot rod shop). However, he would do the welding for $150.

Then I called a shop way out in Naperville and the guy wanted $100 to swap the muffler but had to send the muffler to a shop to get it welded.

A local Porsche race shop wanted $500 to do everything which I thought was too much.

So I'm still looking for a one-stop shop that is reasonable. This is also low on my "car to-do" list.

No luck on my end either. They either charge too much or don't want to touch it.

$500 is reasonable. I paid about that in Canada a few weeks ago to do...included removal and reinstall.

Fister will do them for $315 + shipping. No reason to pay $500 for another shop unless you don't want to remove your mufflers.

There's also no reason to pay $315+shipping for a simple fabrication. There are plenty of places that will do what Fister MS will do at a lower cost and without the hassle of shipping a large and heavy item.

The tough part is finding a one stop shop.

I'm willing to tackle removing and replacing my mufflers I just don't have the time and have other car DIY things I need to do first.

Also interested in this - short of going to a Velasquez muffler shop.

Any updates?

I went to a local Midas shop and they quoted me $80 if I bring them my mufflers. Just not sure if I trust them.

I'm having my mufflers hacked right now (997.2). It's a second set I picked up for cheap so not too worried if it sucks. The guy makes custom exhausts, been doing it for 25+ years, seems real nice. He's going to work on it next week.

Did you remove the mufflers yourself?

My mufflers are done. I need to pick them up. I used James Dean Muffler in Brookfield,IL near LaGrange. $150. I have a set of spare 997.2 mufflers I dropped off for the guy to hack.
