Hey guys

Today I got the yellow alert of “steering assistance error” and the steering wheel became super heavy.



the car is a 2019 cayenne s and has almost 60k on it.
is it a common issue for this year/model?
any insight on the potential root cause?

I know two people with 2018+ Cayennes who had the same issue and had to change the steering gear to fix it. One of them have hit a curb few weeks before that message showed up, he damaged the wheel and suspension. The other guy had this message showing up without any prior accidents. Take your car to the shop to have it checked, hopefully it is not the steering gear.

Steering gear cost online is $2,500 if you dont have rear wheels steering. If you have rear wheel steering and power steering plus it is $4,500. You can find them used on ebay for approx $1,500.

Thank you for the reply. The car has warranty on it and is in the shop but they have not looked into it yet. I was hoping whatever it is, it would be covered by the warranty.
I’ll keep you posted with the diagnosis results.
