@Kevin_ yes i was thinking of going w something like this.

i can reach the center, but i have to lean in such a way to where i am making contact w the car - and i dont like doing that because it is a scratch risk.

thanks all for the input. i was hoping someone would have some idea i didnt think of but this is just a good old fashion issue w a basic resolution of getting myself up higher or getting a longer washing implement.

Thomas, The Girots extension pole is aluminum so you could damage the paint if hard contact was made. I like it because i can be away from the car and stay drier while washing, it is fast compared to moving a ladder side to side or opening your doors (then I have to wipe off the door sill). My wife likes that I am not on a ladder, so happy wife, more car stuff!

I've never hand washed a car but once in my life over 35 years ago so I may be off base here. Can't you buy a pool noodle, cut it down the length, slip it onto the pole and and zip tie to tension it in place? I suppose it would be OK for all that trouble if you are doing it on a regular basis?

Sure, you could put a foam wrap on the pole. I just watch what I am doing a bit and have not had an issue, I use it every time I wash the car. I have been washing my cars since I was was a teenager, I find it relaxing as a retired guy.

MSCA, a wood pole could work too.

Considering how expensive and potentially aggravating a slip of the hand can be, I would, if I were to do it, want to stack the odds even more in my favor than to trust "I've been doing this for X years.". YMMV. Maybe if I could stand being retired and have nothing better to do, literally, I may consider hand washing. Till then, I am using the machine wash and have a detailer do his annual job.

That wooden pole might work.

This sentence hurt my soul. My condolences for your car's paint.
