Folks - thanks for the quick replies.

This indy will be doing the oil change. I will just supply the Oil and Filter (purchased from Walmart and Porsche dealer listed by Thomas).

https://www.townsendsautomotive.com/...e-repairs.html
https://www.yelp.com/biz/townsend-s-...ive-san-jose-2

I spoke to him and 75% of his business is Cayenne, Macan and Taycan, so he is the right guy. As I supply the oil and filter, he will charge $200 and will also give me the sample for Blackstone Labs. Appt set for Tuesday, May 27. He will do it while I wait.

Bought filter from a Porsche Dealer via Amazon as it ships / reaches me faster and its price was most competitive incl shipping (
Amazon Amazon
)

Bought oil from Walmart

have ordered the Blackstone kit and it if doesn't arrive timely, will use my own container following their instructions.

also consider if you have a lift they can buzz that bottom engine cover off and on in 10 min. if you are doing oil changes for a living i think it makes sense that some people will just stick w the traditional method when there are customers who don’t like it - why rock the boat…
I can't speak for actual sediment, but this is what was left from our Q7, but I would assume the Cayenne is similar. I have not pulled the drain plug to inspect our base Cayenne to verify.

I recall reading a post here a year or two ago in which someone reported that Audi allows oil extraction but Porsche requires oil draining for the same engines. I have an extractor but have not used it for oil yet. I drain from the drain plug. It does not really take that long to remove the numerous belly pan screws with a battery ratchet.

Hi all,
I received this oil filter yesterday and noticed some unusual discoloration or marks on the black material and surrounding areas (see photos). I haven’t seen this before and wanted to check if this is considered normal.

Would appreciate any feedback. If needed, I’ll just buy one locally after inspecting it in person.

Thanks!

Everything is OK. That's the beauty of these filters. Look at the picture of my filter.

BTW, your filter and mine are the same. Both are made by the French company Purflux. The only differences are that mine came in a Purflux package and cost 1/3 of what yours did. Purflux makes OEM filters for the Cayenne and Porsche puts them in their box and demands Porsche prices.
The PN of the Purflux filter for the Cayenne is L1048.

thanks @retom when i saw this i was going to grab a couple pics of one of mine to reassure @MSCA - and msca, FCP Euro sells the purflux filters for 11$. I thought i posted that as an option in my supply list w links. i think @chassis also uses the purflux. I will use them when i run out of the porsche filter stock. I bought eight 5qt jugs of the oil from walmart and originally bought 6 filters so i am good for quite a while. when found that good price for the right spec oil from walmart i bought a bunch. i dont trust prices on anything oil or gas related to stay cheap.

@ThomasWShea @retom
hey I just didn’t want to install the wrong filter and later realized I should have pointed out. The picture doesn’t looking like the picture in the freaking website … it looks like there is rust on the side and the rubber has melted and caused the stain in the middle…so now I at least it’s all good

Or else you guys would have laughed at me later on making such a rookie mistake

@ThomasWShea hey and I know you posted the other brand link but I didn’t know they are the same exact one—I though it’s more like the store brand (like Walgreens brand versus name brand)…I didn’t know it is the same product. Just in two different packaging.

I use store brand filters (STP, Carquest, etc) on 5k mile changes and get great Blackstone results.

@ThomasWShea

Your numbers seem perfect! Congrats!!

What I am surprised at it the universal averages. Are they saying these are the numbers for the average Porsche 3.0T at about 6300 miles on the road....I mean how are those cars surviving with those numbers!!!

i think that is what they are saying. i am going to try a 3k oil change and send that sample in and see what the difference is. did you end up having your local indy do your change? how'd it go?

@ThomasWShea
hey we corresponded over it 1:1 and I didn’t realize you posted the Q here as well. The oil change went well.
