9Y0 vs 958.2 turbo
Looking for some input.
I have never owned a Porsche, 5 BMW’s. But have always thought I would one day get a Cayenne Turbo. Now as I am looking at a 2019 Cayenne Turbo and learning about the issues that may come or have already occurred with the one I’m looking at or any others I may look at. So that has me wondering if maybe I should be looking at the 958.2 instead. The 2 main concerns I have are the cost of the brakes and the water pump failure issue. The one I’m looking at just had the water pump replaced about 1,000 miles ago but they didn’t replace any of the vacuum components. The repair was not done by Porsche. The front brakes where just replaced in a piece meal kind of way. They tried doing just pad all the way around but there was still a pulsation so then they replaced the front disc, one at a time.. now it sits with new front pads and disc and just new pads on the rear and still pulsating. As much as I like the looks and style of the 9Y0, I am wondering would I be better off with a 958.2? Last thing I want to do is purchase a vehicle that is still depreciating and have to start throwing more money at it. I think when it come to the 958.2, most of the depreciation has already occurred especially around the 2016-
- 2017’s.

Porsche ownership is for DIYers or for those with deep wallets. Which one are you?
The 958 V8 engine is not problem-free. Spend lots of time searching the 958 forum and you will find there is no free lunch.

The question then would be as a DIYer, which is the more manageable engine, the 4.0 or the 4.8.

The stuff you look at, touch and spend the most time with your eyes on/interacting with is the key difference. The PCM, console, and software in the 9Y0 is just awful. Couldn't take it anymore, sold the car.
It also costs astronomically more to maintain than a 911 and the 9Y0 is not DIY friendly.
If I had a gun to my head id go with the older one. My 0.02.
