Default Cayenne Turbo Depreciation

Before I go on my small rant, I realize that you do not purchase a Cayenne Turbo for future resale value. If you want something with high resale, buy a 911 or a Lexus. I know the Cayenne Turbos depreciates significantly but this is a bit bonkers. Been looking around maybe thinking of trading my 2023 Cayenne Turbo possibly for a Panamera Turbo S (need four doors). Called around and the values given from various Porsche dealers for my 2023 Cayenne Turbo ($170k MSRP), purchased new in May and now has 2k miles, are surprising. The most I have been quoted is $140k while the majority of dealers are around $130k - $135k. The lowest I received was $122k. So, this car has depreciated $48k in three to four months? It even has the five year maintenance plan. SMH…I 100% knew I would take a hit if I decided to do this but wasn’t thinking $40k-$50k hit. The used car market is all over the place and with high interest rates I guess some dealers may be struggling to move inventory. My local Porsche dealer seems to be doing fine as it was a zoo last weekend with people test driving and looking at cars. Sorry for the rant…

Got mine in Feb and put 12k on it so far, I’m figuring I’ll take a 35-40k hit but with your numbers maybe more. Looking forward to it when I trade it in in April, might be even worse than with about 20k miles on it.

Dealers always lowball on trade, even on 911's save for that whacky free money period where everything got high valuation. While 911's defnitely do better on value, realistically speaking it highly depends on the trim, color and options.

With that said, any other non sports car Porsche will take a bath on resale. Look at the Taycan right now. I remember once upon a time getting 20-30% off MSRP on new Panamera GTS 4-5 years ago. That speaks volumes.

Sorry that happened to you, it sucks ***.

Would you mind sharing your spec? 170k seems like a highly trimmed build!

I have noticed that turbos tend to have a higher depreciation than the rest. Perhaps it's a smaller audience for that price for a Cayenne. I understand your frustration. Porsche supposedly has among the highest markups in the industry, so I wonder what the dealer pays Porsche for a brand new vehicle like yours? I'd call multiple dealers, because some markets are still hot and a car like yours doesn't stay on the lot for very long.

Dealers pay you wholesale price so that they can then sell your car at retail price for a profit. The one that offered you $140k will probably ask for $150k-$155k. The exact number doesn't matter. You get the idea. The convenience of trading in comes with a cost.

Thanks, appreciate it. I do wonder if we will see discounts like that for Turbo / GTS trims here soon?

Black exterior, Bourdeux red interior, deviated stitching, PDCC, RAS, PTV+, Premium package (with ventilated front and back seats, massaging seats), Assistance package, sport exhaust, upgraded wheels (can’t remember off top of my head what they are), sport package (trim), etc

Forget Porsche dealers. They are always looking for a moonshot on both sides of a trade. Try CarShop, Carmax, Carsense or similar dealers in your area.

I also realize that the car I am looking at, Panamera Turbo S, is probably just as bad or it may even be worse than the Cayenne.

That is correct. Just curious, what does a Panamera Turbo S do for you that the Cayenne doesn't? You're in a tough spot, better off holding or trading into something that's already 3-5 years old financially speaking.

Fair question, honestly, not sure really other than it is a car with a big V8 engine. We have three SUVs with the Cayenne so was going to get back to a car. I had a couple M5s and really enjoyed them (F10 and E60) and like the way the Panamera drives. Need four doors which is why I am not looking at a 911 yet. Also, I haven’t heard what Porsche is doing yet with the Panamera and I know I am not really ready yet for hybrid technology.

Makes sense. I didn't see your post above earlier. More and more ordinary Porsche's are sitting on lots. I think if you hold off and keep pressing on nationwide searches you're bound to find a Panamera that's been sitting on the lot for a while and you'll be in a far better negotiating position if you have a trade to offer so they have something to recoup their "loss" from giving you a huge discount on a brand new lot car.

Paying lower % of the MSRP in options really help with resale. As long as you have the most important ones that the next buyer usually wants like Prem Plus and ACC it will hold value pretty well. I only got quoted $8000 less for trade in last month on a Macan GTS I drove for 1.5 years
