So i recently got a base platinum MY22. My wife without my knowledge booked a Christmas vacation in a part of California known for fresh snow and chain requirements during this time of year. I can not for the life of me find any snow chains that fit the cayenne. I even called up my sale rep to see if Porsche has any that fit, nope.
Rent an SUV in that Area (assume by Lake Tahoe?). The rentals come with chains in that region, leave the Cayenne home. Because if you do get up there and its storming, the State Police will turn you around if you don't have chains, Been there, done that
Looks like a 4x4 or all-wheel drive with M+S tires satisfies the chain control requirement in all but the worst snow storms (R-3 condition). However, they will usually close the highway before an R-3 condition is declared.
“California highways have three levels of chain requirements depending on the severity of the storm. Requirement 1 (R-1) dictates that chains be on all vehicles under 6,000 pounds unless they have snow tires. R-2 says chains must be on all vehicles except four-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicles with snow tires. R-3 mandates chains on all vehicles — no exceptions.” https://www.tahoedailytribune.com/ne...-requirements/
Do you have M+S all-season tires on your all-wheel drive Cayenne? Easy to tell without even looking at your tires. Your Cayenne would have been delivered with this speed-limit sticker affixed to your dash just above the headlight buttons:
After reading the D.O.T. requirements, it looks as though your Cayenne, if equipped with M+S tires, may satisfy them.
