So I had a 2019 Cayenne Base and loved it - I have a very short drive to work, don't drive out of town much so I only drive about 6K miles a year. I am over having to have the fastest car, and rather enjoy the nice gas mileage and calm demeanor of the Cayenne base compared to some of the lovely beasts I've driven before. My car was involved in an accident (another member of my immediate family was driving - and that person was completely unscathed despite being t-boned). I'm awaiting a determination, but am quite certain it will be a total loss. My budget is 75K. I am really only considering three cars: X5 xdrive 4.0, Q8, and Used 2020 or 2021 Cayenne Base. Any thoughts or suggestions or other SUVs that are a strong recommend to look at? I know...why would I consult a bunch strangers that I don't know on a matter of taste and opinion, but isn't that the point of internet forums??? Would love to hear some discussion on this (not the wreck though, still painful to talk about though immeasurably grateful no injuries major or minor to my loved one or anyone else involved). We love our 21 Base - the right combination of sport, utility, and style for us. If I didn’t have another Porsche with a V8, I might be tempted by a GTS though.

I've had V8's in both a X5 (2011) and Cayenne S (2008). Currently I have a 2020 Cayenne Base. The turbo charged V6 would give either one of those a run for the money. What I miss the most is the exhaust note of the V8. But like you, I no longer need to be at the front of the pack (sometimes I do!). Your budget would fit a new X5 40i (nicely optioned) or a Q8 (modestly optioned). Be aware that BMW has some supply constraints. For example only synthetic leather (Sensafin) is available. Maybe that fits your needs. Having just done this in August I elected to buy a pre-owned Cayenne over ordering a new X5 for the aforementioned reasons and I'm not a fan of the Q7 or Q8 simply based on visuals. If I had a do over I would make the same decision. The base Cayenne in Chalk over Graphite Blue/Chalk is a head turner and it's performance is excellent. I prefer the haptic screen in the Cayenne over the X5's iDrive. You should be able to find a model year 2020 or 2021 CPO base Cayenne to fit your $75k budget. Search at www.finder.porsche.com

I test drove the base Cayene and I like it a lot coming from BMW. However I wanted something in between: good acceleration and power but not too much power like the turbo trim; solid suspension but not harsh. So I settled at the 2023 GTS which is arriving to me by Q2-2023.
Drivers and car magazines really like the Kia Telluride. It is larger than the Cayenne. Also has a much longer warranty. The Lexus RX is also very popular and reliable.
The Cayenne, in my opinion, drives the most car-like of all SUV. If you were happy with the last one, consider another. You did not complain about lack of performance or handling so those are not issues you need to spend more to fix — by buying an S or GTS or Turbo.
Since you have a very short commute, consider the Hybrid model if you would enjoy watching the battery level and charging. My wife would have zero interest so I would have to take care of that for her or she would be driving around with a dead battery and getting no benefit. Our Cayenne is for her and I bought the S model with sport chrono so I am somewhat entertained when I drive it (she did not like the GTS because she said it sounded like a truck and looked like a macho man’s car—I tried).
Kia, Hyundai, Lexus, are several steps down the ladder from Porsche and I believe that most here are aware of that. We had an RX350 along with a Cayenne at the same time and can tell you that they are absolutely not in the same league, not even close. Close the door on a Lexus and then a Cayenne. Lexus=tin can. Boring and slow, the motor should run forever at that point. Lexus interior is a bunch of brittle plastic, paper thin vinyl covering cardboard, BS leather, generally a medley of cheap scrap.
I agree with you on the Lexus, sat in a couple the other day (GX and RX) and couldn't get out fast enough. I have seen the inside of the Kia product, and won't cut it for me. I'm basically picking between the X5 xdrive4.0 and Cayenne Base now (eliminated Q8). I'd probably opt for new on X5 because I'm worried about BMW reliability, and a Cayenne purchase will def be used and almost for sure be CPO (just started another thread on that).

It does make sense that the $80k car is nicer than the $50k car, but the OP is not looking for performance since he is happy with the base Cayenne and he did ask about other cars to consider. There are others that are cheaper, more reliable if those factors are important. I tried to get my wife to look at the Audi Q8 and the Kia Telluride but she refused. We did test drive an X5 40i Msport a couple of times but even she thought it drove like a truck compared to the base Cayenne. The X5 40i is quicker, though and it has better rear visibility and more cargo space.
We just did extensive test drives last weekend of the BMW X5 and the Cayenne base. The X5 wasn't bad - and then we drove the Cayenne and it was another level above the X5 in terms of driving dynamics. Then we went back to re-test the X5, and that pretty much confirmed my earlier impression. But a loaded X5 is easily $10-$15K less than my ideal Cayenne config, so there's that. The X5 is a HUGE vehicle next to the Cayenne, but amazingly the X5 back-seat room is ****-poor compared to the Cayenne. My wife and I were both shocked when we climbed in the back of the X5. I think it might actually have less knee room than her 2015 BMW X3.
I also test-drove a Genesis GV80 a couple weeks ago, because it does so well in the car mags. I wasn't impressed, but I think my opinion was tainted by the dealership experience. You can't (or shouldn't) sell what pretends to be an upscale automotive experience in the same showroom as a Hyundai dealership!

My wife and I did the same thing — test drove Cayenne base, then X5, then Cayenne to confirm it really drove better, then X5 again because we thought it was a better value and maybe the driving was better than we remembered. We bought a Cayenne S (and spent about $25k more than the X5 40i MSport we tested).
