Default Heated windshield and radar detector issue

Does anyone know what’s the best way to mount a radar detector on a cayenne with heated windshield? I read that the heated windshield, due do the special metallic film layer, will block incoming radar signals from reaching the detector. My vehicle is customer ordered and still in production. It’s past the freeze date so I can’t remove the heated windshield option.

Does anyone who has heated windshield on a cayenne know if there is a cutout anywhere on the windshield?

There are areas to the right and left of the rear view mirror. They are located almost on the roofline. I didn't think it was an ideal spot, so I ended up going with an integrated radar where it is placed in the front and back bumper. Works great.

Which brand of integrated radar detector did you go with and roughly how much did it cost for the detector itself and the installation cost? Thanks!

Sorry to hijack, but does anyone believe the heated windshield option causes problems with ezTag / toll road stickers not being read properly? Reason I ask, I’ve been going through tolls and they haven’t been recorded on my account since I picked up the car.

no worries. I believe it’s the same issue I will be having. The toll passes also use a form of radar detection and the heated windshield will block it from being read. I think for ez pass there is an alternative transponder you mount on your front plate for it to be read

did you mount it in one of the cutouts? The cutouts are easily seen if you use a flashlight or overhead light on the windshield.

Went out and checked with a flash, and sure enough my tag was not in the “cut out”, I guess.

again, apologies for hijacking but here is the before placement:

and the after: where I just moved it to

I assume the shaded grey box was the cut out. I’ll let yall know if this works, tomorrow.

thanks for the pic! Yours is a 9y0 cayenne? That cut out looks promising for mounting my radar detector. I was afraid the cutout would be super small but that seems a decent size for a valentine v1

Can you do a straight front to back view where the cutout is? I want to see if there is a clear line of sight through the rear window, so the radar detector can adequately capture radars coming from the rear.

The white rectangle is my ezTag, placed into the correct “cut out”. So if you look at the previous pics, that’s a generous area.

From the outside front like, more of the straight horizontal point of view:

Roughly $4K complete with install. Pricey.
But couldn’t be happier.

I went with an Escort Max 360 Ci with a Midcity Engineering module that displays the radar readout in the HUD and uses the steering wheel controls for mute. It is totally stealth (not a button to be seen) and works as if it was OEM. My only criticisms of the set up are 1) the cost - it is way more than a windshield unit and 2) Escort's integrated unit is behind on some of the tech to filter out false alerts from LKA, ACC and collision avoidance - however with fine tuning bands through the iPhone app and understanding your local radar bands, you can tune it to an acceptable level. It is never wrong - but I occasionally get false K band alerts from other cars around me. You learn to notice the signal pattern and can mentally filter them out.

I honestly can't drive a car without this now. Not because I tear it up on side streets but because the police near me ticket aggressively, set speed traps and even at speeds appropriate to the traffic and road conditions, it can land you a ticket.

I have the heated windshield (although I can't tell it is working yet since the temps just dropped here but we've had no snow).

I do notice that my iPass only works in the corner by the rear view mirror.
