Default Trunk buttons

What is the purpose of the right trunk button (the one with the picture of a key)? The left trunk button you press once and the trunk closes. The right trunk button I

press once and it closes halfway and I have to press it two more times for it to fully close.

Might be defective, AFAIK.
The right should close and lock the vehicle if it’s unlocked. The left will close and not lock the vehicle if it’s unlocked. If the car is already locked both leave it locked.

This procedure may fix it:
  • First, make sure you have your key fob in hand or on your person.
  • Reset the hatch by opening it all the way. If necessary, push it up to the stop by hand.
  • Then press and hold the left button a few seconds until you hear it beep-beep.
  • Then press and release the right Close & Lock button. Remain near the rear of the vehicle (with key fob) until the hatch is closed and latched. The hatch should now close all the way and lock the vehicle.
Let us know if that worked for you.

Note: After the reset, if you wish to set the opening height to a lower position, open the hatch, then manually set it to the desired height. Press and hold the left button a few seconds until you hear the beep-beep. That position is now memorized.

that closes and locks the car. You likely don’t have the key fob on you or close enough.

I am standing close by with the key fob right behind the car and it doesn’t close and lock. Takes a couple of tries.

Did you try resetting the hatch as described in post #3?

that seemed to have worked. Thank you. Is it ok to manually force the hatch to the desired height? I feel like it’s going to break lol

Can you use the key fob to close the hatch?

Glad that worked for you.

Manually positioning the hatch to the desired opening height and then long-pressing the left button is the procedure described in the owner’s manual.

While you can use the key fob to open the hatch, you cannot close the hatch. You can close it one of three ways:
  • Press the close button on the hatch
  • Slowly close it manually by hand
  • With ignition switched on, press and hold the button on the driver’s door as pictured below:

Possibly it's the detection of the key being inside vs outside that's pausing the closing action. If the car thinks the key is inside it might not close. Something to test, anyways.

I've also had this happen a couple of times but always assumed that it was due to near obstacles (I park in a rather constrained parking space).

I test it with key in- and outside, i also put the key far away. Same issue. Button 1 works also by left key inside, tailgate close directly.
