Default 2019 Turbo & GTS

Hi guys - im really baffled so hope someone can help. I recently saw a Cayenne GTS and thought it had a different stance to my 2019 Turbo - it looked more aggressive but i couldn't put my finger on why? Does anyone know what the difference is between them both. More just from the outside really? Thanks!

GTS comes with Sport Design package as standard and also sits 10MM lower than Turbo. Turbo has a unique front bumper with larger side openings and double slit turn signal indicator (only in Turbo and above models).

I agree the GTS has a fine looking stance. I always assumed the chassis was 10mm lower in all modes. I was wrong.

The 10mm difference only applies when the chassis is set to Normal height. In the Low and Speed settings, the GTS actually rides slightly HIGHER than ALL other models, including the Turbo (Not much higher; about the thickness of a 25¢ quarter)

Additionally, the GTS does not lift as high as the other models when in HIGH and TERRAIN modes.

One other surprising difference. According to Porsche technical specifications, attached, the Turbo’s overall height is about an inch less than the GTS: 65.8” for the Turbo, verses 66.7” for the GTS.

Don’t hate the umpire — I’m just calling ***** and strikes. 😀

Interesting Schnave. The GTS I saw at dealership and C&C have lower wheel gap compared to my Turbo at low level.

Yes, I was very surprised by this. I wonder if the GTS wheel arches are modified to give a smaller wheel gap. The rear wheel arches on the Coupé are wider and the tires have a different offset to fill those wider hips.

Or, perhaps the measurement technique was different between vehicles. Also, the measurements in inches don’t add up to the 10mm. Only 8.128mm. Perhaps a rounding or conversion error. Most surprising was the GTS height is about an inch taller than the Turbo.

We need more real world data here… I was at Porsche Calgary last weekend and they had a few cars in a line… I noticed the GTS was lower by the expected inch compared to the turbo S next to it and commented at the time that this was expected since the GTS has lowered suspension as a feature… Since this confirmed what I expected to see I didn’t take the time to verify any of the settings between the two cars…

If only I was channeling a bit more @Schnave I would certainly have laser measurements of all vehicle heights and screenshots of the appropriate PCM screens as well as photos from every angle in the interest of proper science/engineering. Now all I have are more questions… *sigh*

So many variables but this is taken from the Porsche site for the GTS and Turbo coupes. The SUV height difference is the same - listed as 65.5” for the GTS and 65.9” for the Turbo. Same tire and wheel sizes FWIW.

I thought the same - the wheels in the GTS just seem to sit closer to the arch than in my turbo - maybe the wheel arches are modified? There's definitely something different!

I need to find a GTS and put both side by side!

Also was the Sports Design Package standard on the Turbos or a option?

Yep, 9Y0 Cayennes are rare birds in my neck of Virginia (Yorktown / Williamsburg area). I’ve never seen another Turbo or GTS in the wild. Plenty of Bimmer X5 M50i’s and even a few X5 M Competitions.

If I do come across a GTS, I’ll be sure to whip out my handy pocket laser and scan it! 😎

I may have stirred up a tempest in a teapot. The data may be faulty. I compared two different data sets and neither provided the reference datum for measuring nor the conditions used during measuring.

The engineers at work had a saying: “Why measure with a micrometer when we’re going to hack it with an axe?” I think that saying applies to many aspects of life. Bottom line — the GTS looks fantastic regardless of what different measurements say.

The Sport Design Package was a $5,810 option on the 2019 Turbo. Today, the same option will cost you $6,230.

Here’s a comparison:
