The 2.9 in the S is the same 3.0 block just bored slightly over is my understanding. I drove an '11 B8 S4 that I bought new and tuned and tinkered with for 10 years, that's a great engine. Why thy went away from supercharging I'll never understand, I much prefer it.

The 2.9 is a destroked 3.0 with an additional turbo.

2.9 has a shorter stroke than 3.0

Right, not sure why I was thinking about the bore. I seem to recall it's to raise the compression but I could have that wrong too.

2.9 has a lower compression ratio than the 3.0. In order to achieve more tq and pwr bmep must be higher therefore fuel delivery+boost at stoich is higher than the 3.0.

The 2.9 is a twin turbo. I am really impressed with mine. Great response as well as top end power. Replaced another twin turbo 6, a BMW E61 535xi.
