I'm new to this forum & I would love to get some help regarding the Thermally & Noise Insulated Glass. I'm building a Cayenne Coupe GTS & my freeze date is approaching soon. I asked my sa if I were to add the Thermally & Noise Insulated Glass would I still be able to see the Head-Up Display clearly, & also how bad would this reduce my phone reception? He just copied what was online... but honestly it wasn't helpful at all & tbh it made me more confused. I was hoping someone here could better explain their experience when they added their Thermally & Noise Insulated Glass onto their car. I don't know if this makes a difference, but I'm in SoCal. Thanks!
I haven’t noticed a cellular signal issue with my thermal glass in either urban or rural areas. I did have a problem with my EZ Pass toll transponder. It didn’t work even when placed in the area suggested in the manual. Had to place it up on the Panoramic Roof as a work around. Also, some report their radar detector’s loss of sensitivity; mixed results with that.
No issues seeing the HUD. However, wife reports her polarized glasses make the HUD difficult to see. No issues seeing through the thermal windshield with polarized glasses, though.
The smartphone compartment does boost the cellular signal - I doubled my download speed using the compartment in fringe rural area as posted here:
This thread discusses the additional thickness of the glass and the tinting. Yes, Rennlisters actually used calipers to measure! Read all about it here:
Lastly, do not confuse tinted windows (privacy glass) with thermal glass. Privacy glass comes as standard equipment. Thermal glass adds a layer to the already tinted privacy glass. More on this here:
Thank you for responding! This might sound dumb to you but what is HUD? And i did read up on some of the information but I was still a bit confused.
My SA responded with this. IMO not really detailed. Thermally and noise insulated laminated glass for more efficient reflection of infrared light and exterior sound. Privacy glass for rear windows is standard.
Note: Thermally & noise insulated glass may reduce mobile phone reception. Please refer to owners manual for details regarding proper toll road device placement.
Regarding the Head-Up Display, here is the description notes on it:
Note: Use of the Head-Up Display is only possible to a limited extent with sunglasses with polarized lenses.
HUD - Heads Up Display. It is configurable with different data. I rarely look at my speedometer anymore; it’s right there on the windscreen. Here’s a picture of mine while sitting at a stoplight:
As long as you don’t wear polarized sunglasses, you should be fine with the HUD. Regardless, polarized glasses work just fine seeing through thermal glass.
Thank you so much!!!! I will go ahead and email my sa to confirm the build!!!

Can I also ask you another question regarding the differences in the 21" wheels vs the 22" wheels? Which one is a better ride? I did opt for the 22", but that was because it looked nicer but aside from the looks I really don't know the differences. My dealership only had a turbo for me to test out so that's why my sa didn't go into detail. Thanks!

If you opt for the 21" wheel, the tire sidewall will be thicker. That gives the tire more room to flex, and should provide a more comfortable ride, in theory. There are numerous performance features that could mitigate the difference, though. My '20 Turbo Coupe has 22" wheels. I am really happy with the comfort.

One difference to consider. Snow chains are not authorized for 22” wheels. All other sizes are authorized snow chains on winter tires.
Ride quality is very subjective. I think the tire manufacturer and performance type also affects the ride quality. 22” Summer UHP tires, with the stiffer sidewalls, will ride harsher than 22” All-Seasons. 22” Winter M+S will give the smoothest ride of the three.
Inflation pressure will affect your ride quality. If you look at the inflation tables in the owner’s manual, the 22’s have the highest recommended inflation pressures.
That being said, I’m pleased with the ride on my 22” P-Zeros set to reduced partial load pressure. Full load pressure can be a bit jarring on the bumps, especially in Sport+ Mode.
I would have loved to test drive both sizes to see but the dealership is low on inventories esp in coupe. My sa did say the 21' would be a nicer ride but that the 22" in his opinion would look better.
Oh good to know but also good I won't need to worry about snow chain as I live in sunny area.
So as long as I research on the tire brands then the ride should be ok.
