Default Dash Cam Footwell 12v

So after finding the 12v outlet in the footwell and doing some reading on here I decided to get a dash cam. I didn’t want to get one unless I could do a clean install because I hate having cables cluttering the interior.

Anyways I got a Garmin Mini 2 and ran the wire nicely behind the a pillar and under the footwell cover to the 12v in the passenger footwell. I thought it looked very nice… then I realized that outlet is hot all the time. Doh!

Any recommendations for anywhere else to wire this? I was hoping to go with a dongar adapter but nothing yet for the cayenne.

I have the Escort Max Ci 360 installed. It goes off when approached by taller American vehicles (Escalades) with LCA/LKA.

I had my dashcam connected to the footwell outlet as well. It will eventually shut off after 30min, which I think means the passenger footwell outlet shuts down? But I wonder if there is still a parasitic draw even if it is off.
I've been having issues with the lithium 12V battery, so I decided to move the plug to the center outlet. That way we can unplug and plug the dash cam usb easily, just in case the dash cam is the culprit of draining our battery.

I use a CTEK charger and found that if I locked the car door, after about 30 minutes the charger would shut off. If I leave the door unlocked the charger stays active.

Hmm, maybe that's why our hybrid died this weekend. Sat undriven for two days unlocked, plugged into the wall. The HV battery was at 100%. Didn't have the tender on. And the dashcam was not visibly on.

Edit: By "charger" do you mean the Ctek or the outlet?

Thanks I was hoping not to have to mess with that, but seems I’m outta luck!

I wonder if maybe your camera has some self shut off mode or something. I left mine connected and had the car on the trickle charger just in case and the camera never turned off after about an hour.

I believe you have to plug in the charger right after you turn the car off and then it stays connected regardless if the doors are locked or not. However if you turn off the car and let it sit for too long before plugging in the charger it will turn off after a while. I believe I read that on here and that has been my experience with it. If it’s in the garage all day and then I decide to plug it into the charger, I first have to turn it on, then turn it off and plug it in right away. I’m thinking if I move this camera from that footwell outlet that may be a better outlet for the trickle charger. Haven’t test that yet.

I played with this a bit when I first got the suv. The instruction with the CTEK (PORSCHE) charger said: shut the car off, plug the charger into the port, then plug the charger into the wall, close the door. The first time I did this, I locked the doors. I came out an hour later and found the charger was not charging. I re read the instructions and the second time I left the doors unlocked and the charger was still in float mode in the morning. I assumed the locking of the doors is what signalled the car to go to sleep after 30 minutes. But maybe I just did something wrong? Anyway, my car lives in a heated attached garage so I just leave it unlocked and have had reliable charging.
