Default Wheels damaged in shipping (UPS)

Looking for some opinions

I ordered a set of 4 wheels and tires from an out of State Porsche dealer, he had the set in stock, so I bought it, Upon receiving the wheels, the front face of the wheels had gauges and scratches all 4, usually when I sell wheels, my packaging is foam or cover for the face and 2 double circles of cardboard front and back, the dealer cover the front and back with 1 circle cardboard.

I'm not sure of my options, dealer I guess they need to file a claim with UPS, not sure who is going to be responsible, I know that answer, but in the mean time? I never had a similar issue with a Dealer before.

just one example of one of the wheels

You should have refused delivery due to damage and had them returned to the shipper.

the problem I wasn’t home, my mom received the wheels and as soon as I got home I was praying about the packaging, as I noticed the dealer didn’t do it right, but 3 are damaged with similar scratches, I don’t know if the dealer is going to take them back or what would be the process with them

Talk with the dealer, they should take care of it. Do you have pictures before they were shipped? Worse case scenario, dispute it with your CC, if you paid with one, the easiest way to deal these situations.

I’ll call tomorrow, sad and surprised on the poor packaging, I don’t have pictures, Tomorrow I’m going to call my local dealer, I’ll try to find out if Atlanta or another Porsche Parts wearhouse might have the set in stock

This happened to me once, very frustrating. The drivers will say it was signed for even if it was not. It is not too late to make a claim with USP. They could claim poor packaging but they should not have accepted the shipment if it was poorly packaged. Best recourse is to probably start with the shipper and let them know it was poorly packaged and damaged as a result.

Agreed.

Reach out to the dealer to have them start the paperwork on their side.

I did, didn't sound concerned, he said he was going to call back, I checked with my local dealer and they don't have that set of wheels in any of the US Wearhouse, special order. I don't think I can do much, if I hold to the wheels is just because I'm getting a super good deal, but I don't think this is happening

You could always ask the dealer for a $500 allowance and then get them fixed locally? I've had wheels on our 2018 Odyssey and. past BMW 5 series refinished at a cost of $150CAD each and once done, you would be hard pressed to see any flaw in them. It might be an option for you if the dealer doesn't want to take them back or you can't find a replacement set.

Sucks to see this happen but can be fixed/refinish locally at reasonable cost. Of course i would demand a credit/allowance from the dealer. Saves them some headache too.

Looking at the wheel again, given that the tire protrudes well past the rim and most of the time the wheels are shipped on a pallet flat on top of each other, I wonder if the damage wasn't there before the shipping. Disregard on the part of the dealer to not protect the rims prior to shipping.

2 rears have more damage, 1 front just a penny size nick on the edge, I can have a local company refinish them, last time I had my m4 competition wheels diamond cut, they don't do a good job, the guys running the machine \ are doing lots of mass production repairs they don't take the time to do it right, last time I was trying to change the clear coat color on my m4 wheels and I ended with thin lines and wider lines from the machine, so I dont trust that, if I was going to receive a $500 credit to get them repaired, its not even worth it, my time taking the wheels and also expecting something that its not going to look like brand new.

I never shipped via freight I always use Fedex and never had a problem, UPS they always do something wrong, dealer shipped the wheels with a circle card board on front and rear, not a single layer of foam or protection to the face, I usually do 2 layers of cardboard front and back and some thin foam on top of the face to protect and wrap in plastic and then tape all the wheel and never a single problem
