Default Resonator delete

I am looking to add a bit more growl to my 2019 Cayenne S. Has anyone done a resonator delete? If so which resonator do you remove? How was the sound?

@p3pp3r deleted his and found no significant difference in sound. Have you considered catted downpipes from Fabspeed? Downpipes give a bigger sound increase over any muffler modifications.

Another good thread about Cayenne S exhaust mods here:

If you're looking for a more free-flowing exhaust note, I cannot recommend swapping out your restrictive OEM cats for 200cel HJS cats. No check engine light guaranteed, and you'll get power gains + sound!

Do you have any clips of the 2.9T with just sport cats and factory exhaust?

Check out the Gundo Hack muffler bypass. Here’s a thread from 6speed describing it. It’s a less than $100 DIY or about $200-300 at a muffler shop. Scroll to post #6

Sound is subjective — you may or may not like it. Here’s a video: Scroll to 0:30 for description and then 5:10 for sound on couple acceleration runs.

It sounds quicker than it looks on video

Don’t delete the second resonator as pictured above. It’s a straight through Helmholtz resonator, so it’s only job is to reduce drone. Deleting it will not add any meaningful sound just cabin resonance/drone and it also won’t add any power as it’s literally a straight through y-pipe.
I deleted mine, and it was just a waste of money. But what I did do was remove my rear muffler and replace it with two vibrant ultra quiets. That made a significant difference.

The front resonator is straight through too, so don’t waste money deleting it if you’re doing it for flow.

Can you share the specs and cost of what you did here? Was it DIY? Very interested. Thanks!

Custom job. It’s only DIY if you can weld.
I replaced the front resonator with a 3” Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonator/muffler #1142 $138
I deleted the 2nd resonator and replaced it with a 3” to dual 2.5” merge collector. $60
I replaced the rear muffler with two Vibrant 2.5” Ultra Quiet resonator/mufflers #1141 $112 each
I didn’t want the shop to use a crush bender, so I bought a 3” 45* (Vibrant 13102) for where the 2nd resonator was, and two 2.5” 90* (Vibrant 1305) bends for the rear and made them reuse as much of the factory pipe as they could.
Total labor at my local muffler shop was $540.
Hindsight being 20/20, I would leave the stock resonators exactly where they are and only replace the rear muffler. The stock resonators are built like tanks, and they are straight through hybrid Helmholtz/perforated core designs, so they do a ton to reduce drone with almost zero impact on exhaust flow.

Hello I am new here. I did follow your instruction keep the 2 oem resonators and replaced the oem muffler with 2 x Ultra Quiet resonator. The sound become slightly better with a little bit of pop sound. However, I would like it be louder and more growl. Should I remove 2 orm resonator. Thank you.

You can remove them, but it WILL drone for not much more total volume. Totally up to you.
I drove it around the block with just the cat and down pipe and it was shockingly quieter than I expected. The cat is the main restriction in the exhaust.

Would you happen to have any sound clips of your setup?

I watched the youtube of the straight pipes and it sounded really good, but I'm concerned that it might be too obnoxious. That guy removed both resonators and claimed there wasn't a drone. I find that a bit hard to believe, but whatever.

I removed the resonators on a Mercedes C63S AMG and Audi RS6, there is no drone.

Not yet, but I plan to make a video soon.
