Default Macan S or Cayenne

Hi guys, I am considering buying the first car in my life. Now I have both Macan S and Cayenne on my list. As a young man without child, Cayenne might be too big and more like a family car. But Macan S did not have the fancy touch AC control, and I am afraid that the new version would have that. (Can’t wait because I need drive to work) Also, I am going to finance the car, will the resale value decrease a lot after EV Macan released? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

You'll have to decide what you prefer on your own I think. The question about the value after the EV version is released is more interesting. Obviously a car is a rapidly-decreasing asset anyways. I guess I would not expect the new EV to have much effect on the prices of used gas vehicles in the short term. Wild guess though.

Hi icemang, thanks for your reply. I understand that car value is decreasing fast. So I just want to find something without a "cliff" value decrease. Especially when I just bought it in several months.

Another option. Don’t worry about the depreciation. Let someone else eat the depreciation and purchase a much nicer, heavily optioned, low mileage vehicle for 30% - 40% discount.

Here’s one example where the buyer saved $65K on a $180K Cayenne. Heck, with that kind of savings, you could buy two!

Hi, thanks for your reply. I am buying my first car, so I don’t want to buy a used one. Personally, I don’t have much experience and knowledge on used cars, so I might end up buying something expensive and in bad condition. Thanks again

@benzbenhu Depreciation is a fact of life with expensive vehicles like Porsche, Mercedes, BMW and others. Porsche seems to have less depreciation than the others, but the depreciation is large nonetheless.

The Cayenne and Macan are different vehicles - one is large and one is small/medium size. Which size vehicle do you need? The Cayenne has a more updated interior, but do you need the larger of the two vehicles?

I agree with Schnave's suggestion to consider a lightly used Porsche to save you a ton of money by having the first owner eat the worst of the depreciation. To avoid any concerns about the problems of a "used car", I would suggest you look at cars that are Certified Pre Owned ("CPO") from Porsche. In addition to the thorough inspection of the car to fix anything that is not up to scratch, the Porsche Dealer adds 2 years to the end of the original warranty period to give you additional peace of mind. If you're interested, here is the link to Porsche's website that describes the program: https://www.porsche.com/usa/approved...rscheapproved/

And you can use the Porsche Used Car Locator to find a CPO car that meets your specs: https://finder.porsche.com/us/en_US/

I've bought 3 Porsche's as CPO cars as I am too cheap to pay full boat and eat all of the Year 1 depreciation. I've saved anywhere from 25%-40% of MSRP for cars between 2-4 years old, so it's a great alternative to get the car you want with the warranty you need at a great price!

Thanks for your reply. Currently I lived with my girlfriend, and we don't have kids or families. There will be only 1 or 2 people driving the car, so I think both cars have enough space. If I go for Cayenne, I think a base model with very few equipment would work for me. Then these two cars are about the same price and same engine.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Going for a CPO sounds like a great option. Since I am in Bay Area, as I searched for CPO, the price of CPO is pretty high because I heard that CPO cars don't have discounts. If going for a new Macan S or Cayenne, what discount should I expect? Thanks a lot.

LOL. Thanks! Sounds like a lot of people loves the driving experience of Macan. Apart from my concerns, I would definitely go for a Macan.

I am one of the few that hates the Macan. I find it way too small inside for me and I didn't care for the handling. This is based on a base loaner when my 911 was in the shop. On the other hand I had no problem with a base Cayenne loaner -- plenty of room for me and the handling seemed more balanced.

Hi Mander, thanks for your reply. Room is not in my priority list of concerns since there will be only 2 people in the car. Maybe I should go for a test drive to see how they drives.

Yes, test drive both. I did recently. Loved the Macan, until I looked in the back seat and decided i would never ask a friend to sit back there (at least a grown up friend). Test drove the Cayenne and liked it but not enough to buy one. The Macan was lighter weight and drove better. Then test drove the Cayenne S model and ordered one the same day. Did get 5% off list from my local dealer. Good luck with your decision. You probably can't go wrong.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I will use my car as a coupe, so I don't worry about back seat. The frustrating thing of Macan is the interior and the future EV versions. I lived in Bay Area, where are you located?
