Tailgate does not open properly
Regardless of using the remote, button on the interior door or rear exterior hatch release button, it beeps, unlatches and moves less than 1” and then beeps with a fault warning. I have to then manually open the tailgate. I have pulled it up, pressed and held the close button and received the reset height sound with no better luck. Am I missing something or is this my first trip to the dealer for service?

Sounds like ED. Have you tried giving it Viagra? I’ll take my hat and show myself out now . . .
But before I go - this was a common problem with previous generation Cayennes. Most commonly caused by failed gas struts. Another cause could be that the lift motor has failed. Others reported that the battery may be discharged enough to prevent the lift motors from functioning even though it was strong enough to start the engine.
BTW, that was a good idea trying to fix it by resetting the lift height on the tailgate.
To troubleshoot the battery, try opening tailgate with engine running. Proper operation would suggest low battery.
To troubleshoot the struts, try assisting the struts by lifting the tailgate during the opening cycle. If the cycle completes normally with assistance, I would suspect one or more bad struts.
A bad motor should generate a fault code. This is readable with diagnostic computer but won’t necessarily trip a light on your dash.

You may have to make your first trip to the dealer for this one. Please post updates. I hope this doesn’t become a common problem with the 9YO.
