Default Purpurite

I tried to order a Turbo for the wife in Purpurite last Friday. Monday I get a call from the dealer saying Porsche put a stop on that color. Anyone know why? They tell me they won't do a paint to sample either.

From what I can see there are options for two whites, two blacks, two grays if you include silver, two blues, and two browns... just as boring as Audi's Q7/Q8 lineup.

Perhaps it will be white with a wrap of her choice.

My guess is they had zero takers. Which is a shame. We saw a new 2018 Purpurite Cayenne S at a dealership in Fort Worth, TX (home of the TCU Horned Frogs, a wealthy private school with a lot of boosters... look up their colors to tie the reference in). I thought it was a cool, classy color that worked well on the Cayenne. Had our Turbo been for me and not my wife, I would've seriously considered it. But she thought it was, well, awful.

Yes, enjoy your bland Cayenne paint palette. Nothing like six plain-Jane shades of black, white, gray and silver to get the blood pumping. Not exciting enough? How about a nice $3K upcharge for beige? Really, Porsche!

FWIW, we both fell in love with Chalk and would've paid $10K to get it on the Cayenne. You want it on your $50K Macan? Sure. But your $150K Cayenne? Nope!

I don't really understand Porsche's reason for limiting the color palette so harshly on a new model. Land Rover launched the Velar for 2019, and it hit the showrooms with a dozen colors! I mean if the English can do it, why can't the Germans?

Experienced Porschephiles, correct me if I'm wrong. But I really think it's German arrogance. We know what is best. You will take what we give you, or go buy your little Land Rover.

(And before anybody accuses me of anti-German bias: I'm a third German.)

Yeah the palette stinks. Would love a deep red. Again: NOPE.

I'd love to see the burgundy red metallic from the Panamera offered. With a marsala/cream leather interior. So nice.

Yes, I noticed just now that Purpurite has been removed from the USA online configurator for Cayenne. I'm pretty sure it was there last week when I was toying with the configurator.

Still on the Canadian configurator. I'm thinking about going with it, just wonder if I would continue to like it.
