Hallelujah! I took my 2020 Cayenne S in for the 25k mile service today. The applied software updates fixed the obnoxious AS/S downshift issue. The difference is wild. The dealer also identified and remedied a squeaky exhaust flap that was an oddity. Very pleased.
I wish that option existed for 2019s. I was told by my service manager that the software from 2020+ is not downward compatible with my year. There were changes between the years.

Great to hear. Can you please post a copy of your service invoice with personal details redacted? Thanks!

The line item on the service invoice germane to this issue was the "Campaign WNH1 Reprogramming DME control unit". A quick search for WNH1 gives me nothing insightful.

I've never run across WNH1 and like you turned up nothing with a search. Maybe Schnave can find something out? :-)

Please post what fix the service invoice says was applied and any repair code if possible. Thanks.
Same, my '21 S doesn't have any open recalls. I wonder if they're doing it to '20 models first, then will do '21. The lack of transparency is thoroughly frustrating.
I just drove my sons 2016 Mazda CX-5 1100 miles and after being in my 19 base Cayenne for 62k miles, I have to say it was treat not having my 66 year old head driving forward on down shifts. I still don’t understand how Porsche could release the 9YO with such an unrefined transmission, kudos to Mazda…and it really was fun to drive.

Yeah they screwed the pooch on this one. Honestly, just about any modern car with an automatic doesn't have this issue.

As I’ve posted before, my 2022 base does not have this downshift problem. My 2019 was horrible in this regard, but the transmission in my 2022 is a different beast entirely. Smooth downshifts and much better AS/S, too. The difference seems to be that my 2022 doesn’t do very much engine braking. I used to be able to point my 2019 down a steep grade and the car’s inherent engine breaking kept its speed under control without my having to brake. Thats not the case with my 2022.
I am curious, though, whether I got a lucky 1-off, as I haven’t seen any posts from anyone else with a 2022 as to how their transmission is working. Anyone know?
I have a 2022 Cayenne GTS. Shifts are extremely smooth, up and down, in normal, sport, sport plus. In fact, I find them too smooth. There is no kick like PDK. And being in sport plus and coming to a stop is not what I consider “rough”. Its likely the market for Cayenne is different and people have different calibrations of smoothness.
