Default Cigarette lighter fuse get blown often

For the past 3-4 months I get the cigarette lighter fuse blown in my 2013 CD.
its a 15amp fuse and takes 2-3 weeks before gets bad without any use..
any ideas what can cause this issue?
I drive typically the CD 1-2 a week.
any ideas to resolve the problem?

If you are talking about the lighter in the center console, near the cupholders - I had the same issue. The previous owner had spilled liquid in the area and there was corrosion on the lighter and wires. I suggest you open up and clean it. Good luck

Is it the same device/cable/whatever that you keep plugging in there? I’ve had this happen in another vehicle and it was a defective smart phone USB cable.

Yep, if you've been using the same charger and cable... try different ones. Many USB devices are quite poorly made, bordering on fire hazards. I'd try a new set. That and use a longer cable and one of the sockets up under the glove box. This as a means to see that the wiring to the center console socket isn't damaged in some way.

One more thing I'd suggest is checking inside the socket for debris. Like a small piece of gum wrapper. I once had that happen to me. It would be fine until I plugged anything in. The small amount of conductive material in the wrapper would cause a short when I plugged anything in. I pulled it out and never had another issue.

Which fuse# is failing?

I'd post the schematic here, but the forum software seems fubar at the moment. Try reading it from this post:

Anybody know where you can get the plugs for the cig. light hole?

I think if I had the plugs in that I would not blow mine so often as it would keep contamination out of the hole.

Thanks,

Mike

That or pickup a rechargeable flashlight that fits into the socket. Keeps it blocked and leaves a handy light if needed.

Mine was blowing regularly when I first got it - turned out there was a short in the wiring and it was fixed under warranty.
