Default 2011 Cayenne Turbo Battery Replacement

I have purchased a 2011 Cayenne Turbo from a dealership, and had it taken to a Porsche dealership nearby for inspection. They said that it needs a new battery. The dealership I bought it from says they can take care of it, but Porsche is saying the battery must be replaced by a certified Porsche mechanic because of the E2 computer system. Thoughts?

Welcome to the Cayenne forum

Thoughts are - will move this to the subforum it belongs in.. which is the 958 subforum (a 2011 Cayenne is a series "958" or more exactly 958.1)

Many of us are running around with batteries we install ourselves. Without it being "registered" to the vehicle. Mine is going on 3 years now - and seems to be working just fine. While some aftermarket tools have menus that would make you believe they can "register" a battery on a Cayenne - I have yet to find one that can actually do it. It isn't clear to me that the dealer can do it. And that's the first time I've heard of an "E2 computer system"). The Porsche dealership wants to charge around $500-600 to replace a $200 battery. That's fine if the other dealer who you bought it from is going to pony up the $$ to do it. If not - let the dealership you bought it from "take care of it" - and ask them to note the Make, Capacity, and Model of the battery they're installing. Take that info to the Porsche dealer and pay them to "register" it with the E2 (whatever) computer. Then hand that bill to the dealer you bought it from.

FWIW - there are some threads on this subject if you browse around a bit..

Moving the thread now - so hang on..

What Don said is 100% accurate. I replaced my battery a year ago and all is well. The dealership charges $500-900. I paid $200 for an AGM battery and spent an hour replacing it.

Just a note based on my experience. You need to replace the battery with the same or very similar parameters of the existing battery. I had a bad experience with an Interstate AGM that my local Indie shop was trying to replace. We could not get the alternator to quit overcharging at 14.8 volts. Replaced with "Porsche" battery and all issues back to normal (13.6 or 13.7) normal driving.

By "Porsche Battery" do you mean OEM porsche or an OE replacement Bosch Product from pep-boys?

Either one should work IMO.

I just put the Bosch from pep boys in a 2014 base. No issues. It is slightly shorter in the longest dimension in person, then the specs say. It might be one inch shorter than the one that Porsche put in the car. The vent line was installed on the wrong side of the battery. It looks like there is a little plug to move the line to the other side. I couldn't get the little plug out, so I just extended the hose from the wrong side to the existing hose. I used the battery out of my computer upc on the posts under the hood to provide battery backup while swapping them out. There is a great "how to" on here somewhere. You need a 10mm triple square. It looks like a torx and pep boys sells that too. I bought it on line with a coupon and picked it up in person for 25% off.

I accidentally enabled the stop/start on my CTT, and sure enough, came to a traffic light - engine off - and then I remember the button to disable it. So - the answer is - yes.

Guys I replaced my 12 CTT with an Odssey AGM battery but my auto stop/start isn’t working. What is this typically pointing to after a battery replacement?

Just a thought. Before you get worried, are you sure the new battery is fully charged? I have a base. But here is how mine works. After I start it after a few days the voltmeter reads 14.6 for a while. Maybe 10 minutes. Then it will drop to 13.6 or so. If I push the sport button the voltage climbs right back to 14.6. Have you driven your car enough to get the voltage to drop to the 13.6 setting? I THINK that the start/stop only works after the car is ready to drop to the 13.6 voltage. And I know that start/stop does not work in sport mode. I dont use start/stop and I have only played with it. So I am not an expert at all, but that is how mine works.

ALL new batteries should be charged with a smart-charger overnight, or as long as it takes for the smart charger to go into maintenance mode before installation. No new battery is fully charged when you get it - and it can take a bit of time for the car to bring it up to full potential.

The right front clip holding the battery cover on is a bugger to remove.
Still trying to figure it out -- Any suggestions?

Use a short screw drier and hook the part of the latch you are trying to open. Use the screw driver as leverage.

Hello and Happy New Year: Your post caught my attention as I been having starting issues with my battery (Interstate MTX-49-H8). I also have been noticing that is charging at about 14+ after startup but I seen it at different voltages including 13.7. but did not realize that is not proper. As it turns out the battery is bad and it is less than a year old per date stamp, I just got the Cayenne in August. What battery is the recommended brand and size by the group? I was just going to get the same battery so I will appreciate your response.

2011 CTT in SoCal.
