Default 958 vs. 958.2 differences - apart from engine and design?

Could someone summarize the differences between 958 and 958.2? I know the engines changed as well as design of lights and steering wheel... but looks like all else remains the same, right?

Thanks

Most changes were simply decorative. The interior stays the same although some buttons might have been moved around, and the start/stop button was changed to "always start-stop". The CTT Turbo V8 remained mostly the same with the usual Porsche bump in HP to get moto-journalists attention.

If you like one, you'll like the other. Peas in a pod so to speak. If you're looking used - read the sticky above.. and consider it might be possible to go up a model (base to an /S, or /S to a CTT) by buying one a year or so older.

Oh - just thought of another change, but not specifically 958-958.2 - the most recent models have a newer design on the PCM with some additional (optional of course) capabilities. Dunno if linking with an iPhone/Apple device is important to you, but I believe the new ones offer that ability.

I believe 2015+ also received active air shutters in front of the center radiator.

2015 got backlighting on the door armrests and the hatch opening button also closes it.

Thanks guys, so essentially the same. Now, I also understand PCM added Apple Carplay from 2016 on... could it be retrofitted to earlier models?

2011 already had backlighting on the door armrests (at least my CTT does..) Unfortunately - my hatch opening button won't close it also. I think the lighting is part of the "Comfort Lighting Package" - lights under the front seats, lights in the front footwells and the overheard U light can be set to glow softly.

MY17 and up for this. Cannot be retrofitted with factory equipment into the earlier generations or model years.

NO.

Not at all. The PCM is factory-integrated. There aren't any programming codes available to make a newer PCM work in an older vehicle.

Search the threads here to learn more. This (and many other questions) comes up fairly regularly.

my '13 CD didn't have the lighting, but my '15 does. neither has the comfort lighting package.

Either search doesn't work, or I am doing something wrong. I did search for PCM under this thread, nothing came up.

So, if I get a 2016 PCM with Apple Carplay, I can't just replace the older PCM and be done with it, right? I think Porsche is one of the few who does it intentionally... pisses me off. Like it would take more effort to change engineering on the car to ensure it's NOT backward compatible than leaving things as-is and just update the PCM electronics.

Quite a few makers infotainment systems are so integrated as to be largely impossible to replace/upgrade, so you're correct that it's not just Porsche. I share your dismay, as I'd much prefer to have Android Auto. Hopefully that'll in the future change since Harman (who makes the PCM) is owned by Samsung.

In fairness the infotainment landscape changes at paces that are far quicker than the auto industry has ever been prepared to deal with. So I wouldn't go so far as to paint it as a deliberate effort to impede progress, by any brand.

oh that would be so nice! Can't tell you how many times I've wanted to just tell the kid to throw something in the trunk and let me close it from the driver's seat because kiddo is too young to reach the button but nooooo, I have to physically move my giant self out of my comfy porsche seats and press a button on the tailgate.

sucks because the old lexus RX we had offered that feature, and that was many years older than this CTT

My 2014 (not a .2) lets me close the hatch from the button on the driver's door.

Press and release opens it. Press and hold closes it.

I thought I had read somewhere that the rubber bushings in the suspension components were a more durable version in th .2.
