Sounds like pads, and if the warning light has come on the sensors are done and will need replacing. I'm pretty sure it says on the rotor what the minimum thickness should be. I quick measure with some calipers will tell you if they need replacing.

Order them from http://www.suncoastparts.com/category/958V6BRak.html and do them yourself or have an indy place put the parts on after you've ordered everything from sun coast or somewhere else.

I've also printed out parts listing and said to the service or parts manager " are you insane or just greedy? Would you like my business or would you like for me to get stuff like this done elsewhere? " They usually cave and match the pricing of parts.

Thanks for the link to Suncoast.

My light came on yesterday. How do I know if the front sensor or the rear sensor is triggering the light? This is my wife's Cayenne, and she will only have it for three more months (new one ordered).

If the light came on, it's one or the other. You'd have to look at both and find out the front or rears or both need to be replaced. I only know of BMWs that will tell you it's the front or rear. I'm also new to the Porsche world. The infotainment system from Audi MMI infotainment system should be shared with the Porsche brand and get the Porsche brand up to 2015.

I'm a DIY'er and replaced all 4 rotors with drilled & slotted rotors AND installed ceramic pads front & rear ALL parts for under $500. The front Brembo pads came with new sensors and I re-used my rear sensors. It took 300-500 miles to break them in, which was longer then I expected but they stop just fine now. For rotors call ABT in Corona, CA at 1-888-679-4888. OEM spec at great prices. I have No Affiliation with ABT.

When you replace your own pads and sensors do you need a computer to reset the brake service light?

The sensors are what triggers the warning- replace the sensors (or hot wire them) and itll go away.

Dealers never learned the old saying "you can shear a sheep for the rest of your life, but you can only skin them once". I avoid the dealer like the plague for anything not warranty related. The local one charges at least double my indy for everything - sometimes even more than that.

You can buy original equipment supplier pads, sensors & stretch bolts for all four corners from Pelican for around $300 with the PCA discount (get the PCA membership with the discount savings. There's an excellent write up in the DIY forum, with all the tools, torque settings etc.

Torque the caliper stretch bolts to 104 lbs!

You don't have to use a Bulgari box to set the caliper on, but it's a Porsche! Treat yourself !

I had purchased the Audi/VW caliper pins to suspend the calper away from the rotor but it was pretty tight getting the tool in to compress the pistons. For the otherside, I 'd just used a cardboard box to set the rotor upon.
